Your original comment makes it sound like the main purpose of the small spoon is for cocaine - "Turns out it was for coke". But it's not "for coke", it's for stirring your coffee, and it's just that coca

Those all sound like urban legends. The coffee stirrers are for ... stirring your coffee. They look like a small spoon just because that shape works well for stirring the beverage.

If you generate randomly then, due to the birthday paradox, after generating sqrt(N) values you have a reasonable chance of collision. The birthday paradox is named after the non-intuitive fact that with just 32 people in a room you have &g

Isn't that only about separating government powers? As in separating Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches. I just don't see the connection to non-government economical powers. Seems like a stretch.

I'm stuck on the first few paragraphs. It's clear that the author is heavily biased again anything-that-is-not-culture, and therefore gives really bad examples for non-cultural solutions. It's easier to convince everyone you&

Note-taking is very individual. I found out in university that the act of writing lecture notes helps me focus and remember. Otherwise my mind would drift. In fact, I soon realized that I should write my own lecture notes, even if I never l

I used to let spiders live freely in my house, until one time I wanted to go to bed at night and noticed dozens of black spots on the bed cover. I looked up and saw hundreds of tiny spider babies on the ceiling. From then on, whenever I see

The fingerings in the example in the readme are completely non-intuitive for me. I've played piano for a few years and never encountered such fingering. My guess is that the algorithm is optimizing for the wrong metric.

It doesn't really matter if the nazi reference was appropriate or not, using nazism as a comparison point is taboo for any kind of serious discussion. Once you compare anything to nazism you pretty much forfeit the discussion, even if

That could really be a great thing! The problem is that Mersenne primes are "sparse", i.e. there aren't many of them. Finding one could be like minting a new block, but it would be so rare that it won't be practical. For
