This is a copy-and-paste version of what you said yesterday. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5411929 For what it's worth, the SproutCore 2.0 project became the Ember project (see http://yehudakatz.com/2011/12/12/amber-js-formerly-

Yes, Edward Faulkner has used Ember heavily and was one of the original contributors back when we started the project.

You're quoting from the Ember website but your bad experience was with Backbone.js. In fact, Ember is designed to avoid the kind of deficiencies you hit in Backbone. Sounds like you should give Ember a try in your next app. ;)

Great post. Client-side web applications have come a long way in the past year. In the comments I read when Discourse was released, many people dismissed out-of-hand rich JavaScript apps based on stale information. For example, they assumed

Threaded comments—like here, on HN, and on Reddit—easily spiral out of control. It's especially hard to come back later and see what's new. Many people seem to have missed this, but Discourse solves the problem in a particularly elegant way

I've been beta testing Discourse for a few months now, and can tell you that this is going to have a huge impact on how we have discussions online. Jeff Atwood has more insights into how humans communicate in an hour than I do in a year. Th

The Angular guys are incredibly smart (and good looking) and I am not above stealing their good ideas for Ember. It's great having skilled competitors, because it drives us both to build a better product. I hope you didn't find any personal

Not to start a flame war, but I'm not sure this is a plus. Full unit coverage is nice for confidence, but can be balls and chains when it comes time to make changes. Ask any of our pre-1.0 users; they'll assure you that the pace of change

The API has been frozen and we're very close to our 1.0 release. The advantage of changing APIs frequently before 1.0 is that you get a much better product. I'd love it if you reconsider Ember.js and take another look now that it's stable.

While there's great feedback here, it's interspersed with information that is either outdated or just flat-out inaccurate. Overall, Angular is a much more extensive framework than Ember. I don't think this is true. For example, AngularJS,

There's another use case that is just as important in my opinion: offline mode. The Turbolinks folks would argue "you are not on a fucking plane"[1], but I have been on a plane and wanted to access things like GitHub issues. The architect

As someone who has sacrificed his last few weekends and holidays writing documentation for my open source projects, I can assure you that that is not my attitude, and the fact you think so is very disappointing.

Where is this strong reaction to over-design coming from? Full disclosure: I earned most of my salary in 2012 doing consulting. Fortunately, most of it was from working on open source projects. But a component of it was going in and getting

It seems like the only thing they are using from Underscore that's not already in Ember.js is Function.bind; I'm totally open to adding it to Ember.js proper.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, but the two really do not share much architecture, especially when it comes to the view layer. The only place where the two started out looking similar is in the object model, and even that has ev

Nope; the opposite, in fact. For the past few months, Yehuda and I have been focusing our efforts on Ember Data. Maintenance and feature work has been almost entirely done by people other than us, in the process of building real apps.

This is incorrect. Ember.js is not a fork of SproutCore, and they share no code. Ember.js just borrows some of the best features of SproutCore, like bindings and computed properties. Additionally, the Addepar guys put this together in a few

Congratulations to the guys at Addepar on releasing this. They have been contributing an amazing amount of stuff to the Ember.js community—not least of which is helping us build Ember Data. Probably my favorite thing about Ember is that it

I agree with you in principle, but in practice it is hard to even have that discussion on HN, where metadiscussions are frowned upon, there is zero transparency into how moderation is conducted, and you can be hellbanned without explanation

Is this a serious question, or just snark? Ember.js does not ship with a default stylesheet—it's up to you to style. It just generates plain HTML.

CoffeeScript doesn't support the hooks we need to make its class system work with Ember.js' object model, but Yehuda and I have both worked on a large-scale Ember.js application written in CoffeeScript and it was fine.
