Sorry, no, you shouldn't just handwave away bad behavior just because it's common. That's ridiculous. If big corporations do things that are unethical, they should be called out, even if they're common. Saying "wel

One person wrote books like JRR Tolkien. His name was JRR Tolkien, and those books are widely celebrated by millions of people as classics. I don’t have any issue with people using an engine like Godot or Unity or RPG Maker or Unreal or an

I have no fucking clue. It's been kind of depressing me. Software and cartoon trivia are basically the only things I'm good at. No one wants to pay me for cartoon trivia and AI can do that better than me anyway, so the only th

I've been feeling this. I don't really feel like it's a "bad" thing; I've said for a long time if a job can be automated, then it should be automated. I still do believe that, even if I am probably on the losi

IIRC, Dave Grohl actually gave a lot of shit to Metallica, claiming that it would be one thing if this were some indie band selling cassettes having their music stolen, but it's another when multi-millionaires are crying that they aren

Forth is so interesting. I've been doing a lot of Forth lately; it's a kind of weird language, and it makes your brain think in a way that is very different than basically any other language out there. It allows you to work at ef

No, I'm in my mid 30's. Unless I win the lottery (which seems unlikely considering I don't buy lottery tickets), or I managed to get some obscenely lucky with shares at a startup, I realistically will need to work for at lea

I have had the opposite experience. When it was just asking ChatGPT questions it was fine, I was having fun, I was able to unblock myself when I got non-trivial errors much quicker, and I still felt like I was learning stuff. With Codex or

I actually paid for a license for Aseprite a few years ago. I'm not 100% sure why I did, other than "this seems neat". I like it a lot. Pixel art is shockingly approachable and the animation stuff in Aseprite is pretty fun.

I am not sure I've ever seen a laptop that has ECC memory. I'm sure they exist but I don't think I've seen it. I would definitely like to have a laptop with ECC, because obviously I don't want things to crash and

I find it frustrating that apparently we just gave up on Trump giving up his tax returns, or putting his businesses into a blind trust. This was a big deal in 2016~2019, but I guess the entire world just decided it wasn't worth it. Now

Man you really took issue with a small part of what I said. Writing forty paragraphs about your opinion of the “many eyes” thing is interesting enough, but I stand by what I said. If Flash player had been FOSS I think it could have been in

Sure, maybe, but I think if it were FOSS'd back in ~2005, then these security issues could be addressed by a larger set of eyes, including the browser-makers themselves. If this hypothetical universe happened, I think we'd have ha
