Interesting. I gotta admit that my smell test tells me that this is a step backwards; at least naively (I haven't looked through the code thoroughly yet), this just kind of feels like we're going back to pre-protected-memory opera

A part of me was hoping that with LLMs getting better and better at mimicking corporate nothing-speak that we'd realize that we can automate away a lot of the executives, Vice Presidents, and CEOs. Of course that was a naive hope on my

That's an astute point, and you're right to point it out.

I mean I don't know that I agree with that completely. Languages can still be actively awful even if you do learn them. I have written a lot of PHP. In order to learn it I bought several books, I've done a dozen or so projects w

I guess? I mean I actively did not want this president. I actively voted for someone else. I tried to get people to not vote for him, though I doubt I was successful at that task. I suppose I do still pay my taxes and as such I'm s

I feel like if you want to learn Nix with some hand-holding, resist the urge to use Claude Code or Codex, but instead just use the chatbot in the browser or something. Ask it questions, explicitly copy and paste in errors as they come up,

I'm American, I didn't vote for Trump, so I don't feel like it's me dealing with adverse effects of my decisions. I did vote for Eric Adams in NYC, and while Eric Adams didn't advertise blatant corruption as part of

I've been doing this full time for about fifteen years, which is a fairly long time (though admittedly not nearly as much as some others here). I haven't really stopped loving writing and designing software. I still have fun writ

What the fuck was even the intended purpose of starting this war in Iran? Like in their mind, what was the best case scenario?

There's an argument for that, though I think replacing it with Trump's basically-unregulated private military is pretty concerning.

You know, I'm not going to say I'm enamored with the language, but I think the Stockholm Syndrome has kicked in because I really don't hate the language so much anymore. I mean, I'm only ever using it for configurations,

Yeah, I've been using Unixey stuff for almost twenty years now (most of it Linux, and fell for the siren song of macOS for about four of them). I liked Arch and Ubuntu and Mint and OpenSUSE well enough when I used them first, but once

We can acknowledge that weed might be bad for people while also acknowledging that it probably shouldn't be illegal. There's no contradiction. I think alcohol is bad for people but I don't think it should be illegal. I also

I am not sure I'd say I'm "against" it since broadly speaking I don't think it should be illegal, but I am against it in the sense that I really think that absolutely no one should be smoking weed. It's kind

I do live in NYC and I actually did see that practice when I was searching. I might check it out though apparently my insurance will not cover it. I'll dig a bit further.

I still think that's less actively inconsiderate than Cocomelon at full volume. At some level they can't control the kid crying but they can control the volume which their kid's media runs at.

He bragged about trying to stop the investigation! That's why Robert Mueller was appointed the first time. He went on TV and talked about how he fired Comey for even starting the investigation into Russia.
