AFAIK Apple ID doesn't expose your actual card number, so using it over a card has two benefits: 1) no need to grab a card from the wallet, just tap the phone I probably already have in hand 2) privacy

This comment is kind of funny to me, because I know a number of FE devs who share the same sentiment but with reverse trajectory.

I used to use the browser address bar for this, too. Then browsers started sending the crap you paste in it to who knows where. I even used to paste passwords there to make sure they don't have leading or trailing characters unintentio

For me, the reason I can't seem to be able to get started with electronics is that I know I have a much smaller scope of where I can take the project from the start. If you build something good, but it looks home-made, it will be perce

I see what you mean, but when it comes to the rigor required to putting together a good question, this is no different than say filling in an issue template when reporting a bug or asking for support in a Github repository, right? Do you av

That's a fair point, I haven't considered that it is entirely possible to just not want to bother due to one's experience with read only SOs perceived pedantry, as opposed to hostility.

It is funny that for a site which spent the better part of the last two years to be more welcoming (which they IMO approached unsuccessfully), this is still the prevailing strategy. And it works, so I can't disagree. Now I don't t

I use Markdown documents in Git repositories whenever I can. Also try to evangelize for this at work. PRs then include relevant changes to both code and docs and it's beautiful. For personal project docs I use this exclusively. At work

I do feel like Git commit descriptions are severely under-utilised for sure, but I believe there is a reason for that which until fixed, will prevent rich and contentful commit descriptions for flourishing. In the article order: the screens

Someone being eager to be a mod does not mean they'd make for a good mod. Imagine if HN was modded by a new guy every two weeks (eagerness doesn't tend to last and is not a precursor to perseverance in my opinion at least).

I agree with this but I still think it is a bad name. Maybe something like non-aggressive communication would fare better?

I don't know about this. I don't think it is that uncommon to meet fat, but also happy and well off people. Especially in office jobs, where you have to actively fight free company snacks, sugar water and lack of personal time for

Unfortunately for me no amount of reloading fixes it. When it works, it is for no obvious reason except that maybe I got lucky and other users on the same CGNAT my cell service provider is using weren't using Twitter for a while so it&

This is what I meant by standardization but I used a wrong term. I completely agree with you. At the basis, there will always need to be plain text, which should result in a wide variety of viewers and editors becoming available. In order f

This reminds me of the 100:10:1 principle (don't know if it has an actual name) where you give a chance to a 100 ideas, advance the 10 most promising and ultimately select 1 which you then focus on completely. I think it is supposed to

Does this impact you if you run Jira on your own servers? My understanding is most companies run Jira themselves and Atlassian AFAIK only runs a "tutorial"-kind instance (unlike say Gitlab where a lot of customers run the project
