"percolated down"? Since when have the elites been interested in racial equity? By elites, we're talking about the 1% or even the .01%.

HN loves to sneer at reddit, but reddit (and HN) is just a microcosm of humanity. If you want to see groupthink/mobs on here, enter any thread about the benefits or drawbacks of cryptocurrencies.

This seems incomplete without also posting the result of whether or not it consumed as much power as the entire planet did in 2017.

Google Fi has a setting where you can have all unknown incoming calls screened by default. I wonder if that can be mandated across all telecoms.

I think we are confusing the casual term disabled with the legal term disabled. Of course employers should work with legal disabilities. We are talking completely about "functionally disabled" such as your arm being temporarily oc

It's "temporarily being not good at math", which is the point.

The meaning of words will always depend on the context they are used in. Even outside of a court of law, there are still people here who disagree that a person with an occupied hand is still disabled. That seems like something that will shi

Can we apply "disability" to all abilities, like being hungover and therefore temporarily sensitive to light and sound, or should it apply to specific ones, like being injured and therefore temporarily sensitive to light and sound

I have seen multiple people throughout my life say "I can't do math today" while referring to their work and then avoid doing computationally-heavy tasks for the day.

We are just talking about being bad at math temporarily. Let's take a physicist who is having brain fog for a day. In this case, it would be weird to say they are situationally disabled or disabled at all. I think your term "menta

So someone who doesn't have dyscalculia, but is just having a bad day and isn't doing math well...we wouldn't say they are still disabled, and we wouldn't call it a situational disability.

All situational disabilities? Should workplaces cater to people who are emotionally disabled in some way? Not that I completely disagree with you, I just want to understand what we are defining. edit - Yes, workplaces should cater to legal

We are in agreement on being technically disabled. But having a disability also has a legal meaning that is separate from that. For instance, we as a society don't call someone disabled for not being good at math, unless something else

I'm not sure how much that definition holds water. Am I disabled if I'm temporarily not able to do cognitive work?

It also sounds like an incredibly bad idea to put a junior engineer with no network technician experience in a network technician role. Have fun when your server goes down at 2am because something is fried, somewhere!

There is a noticeable trend here of gatekeepers crying foul when others decide to talk about this. They try to shame you into silence, claiming that you are caring about the wrong thing , as if you cannot pay attention to more than one iss
