Small Basic is pretty cool http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/devlabs/cc950524.aspx it has a few graphics things and handles a lot of stuff for you. for example, if you want to use the Turtle object, you write one line of code: Turtle.M

i don't think there's much magic to it. i think it's simply that reflexivity for some people grants them more energy than interacting with the environment does, for whatever reason. it may be a chemical thing Jungian psychology (such as M

World of Warcraft is addicting for sure, but i think it's easy to miss the fact that the core of the game -- the combat -- is very well-designed. if it weren't, i don't think the game would be any where near as popular as it is whenever i

if i read correctly, that's talking about the mathematical notations, not arrays or the indexing of such, of that programming language and while we're considering sources of "clumsiness and mistakes," 0-indexing is an exceptional candidate,

that's really weird. was it written at a time when most programming was for scientific purposes? i don't know my comp history if i parsed it correctly, he is saying that things should be 0-indexed because a particular mathematical notatio

personally i think 0-indexing is weird. it makes sense as a pointer offset in lower-level languages. but in higher-level languages we have the opportunity to index the first element by the number 1, the second by the number 2, and so on

the [[ and ]] are used for literal/multiline strings, so they make sense in block quotes. and you don't have to end the block with --]]. ]] is fine, which is the only thing i've ever used since it would never have occurred to me, especial

it's likely for usage in higher-order functions. i haven't used clojure but i assume you can do something like this: (map :foo hashofhashes) which would get the element :foo of every hash in hashofhashes

for me the #1 benefit is first-class functions. once you have that, you have the best that functional programming has to offer more generally, the composability of functions allows for more tacit programming. for example: array = [ 1,
