Governments and other big organizations REFUSE to update their browsers because they need IE 6 to support legacy software (I used to work in provincial government in Canada: I know). Spouting off about "web standards" (whatever that means t

The real issue with sites like 99designs isn't the quality (though it IS mostly terrible), it's the _consistency_. If you're getting a bunch of different designers to design you something over their lunch break with no interest in or knowle

I'm not sure a company doing as well as 37s can be accused of having a "complete misunderstanding of all the basics of business".

Twitter's lack of real permissions system is really crazy, especially with the carte-blanche access all apps get to things like your Direct Messages. I doubt people are storing credit cards in there, but the article's right: it's similar to

This is really slick! Great job in terms of design, UI, responsiveness, etc. Dunno how it looks as a business, but it's a slick product for sure.

I run an open-source Twitter service ( http://preyfetcher.com ) and that's exactly what I do. I don't store my consumer key/secret in the public source, same goes for my DB/Twitter Streaming API credentials. Again, for client apps it sucks

I actually dropped out of university because of work. I started making $35k/year plus freelancing (usually another $10-20k) when I was 18, and while I tried to keep going to school for awhile during work, it was too hectic and I wasn't inte

Really? rvm ( http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/ ) has made setting up Ruby development environments on my Mac a breeze. I generally only run a few versions of Python (2.6 and 3) and do most work in 2.6 so I can't speak to that as much, but I h

Check out Fusion Ads ( http://fusionads.net/ ) and The Deck ( http://decknetwork.net/ ) for vetted, pretty, and usually at least somewhat relevant ads that are online. Banner ads and cluttered pages usually suck, but I've probably clicked o

There is a world of difference between liberty and license. I'm hardly the first guy in the room to be labelled politically correct but just because you can doesn't mean you should. And also, you can't mock (specific) people because of thin

I think this is an incredibly frumpy and sad way of viewing childhood, and the mistakes we (are entitled) to make and learn during it. Everyone does stupid stuff when they're kids and lots of people (their friends/family) know about it, and
