I prefer the Rust/ES/Python etc. import syntax not because of ambiguity, but readability. Having everything traceable by quickly scanning the code, without IDE assistance, often speeds up my understanding of a file. And it becomes

The Lib Dems managed to mitigate a lot of damage done by the Conservatives during their time in the coalition. And they were rewarded with blame for everything they couldn't stop, and a hugely reduced voter base ever since.

I've had no luck with Photoshop in Wine or VB seamless mode (PS's custom window decorators are probably the reason for the latter). A full-desktop Windows VM is still good enough with guest extensions though, so I can easily resiz

This seems like a universal-ish mechanism for queueing your recursive function's calls onto a dynamically resizeable stack (placed in the process's heap). This is pretty cool, but I wouldn't say it's "for free"

The difference is very noticeable on a less-than-new CPU (my x240 with an i7 4600U for example) when the text input triggers other UI changes. Even on my Ryzen 3600, switching channels in Discord has visible lag, regardless of network activ

This is made irrelevant for 90% of users who then use their keyboard & monitor in Discord, VS Code, and dozens of other JS-powered programs and sites.

This is why my first instinct when looking something up is to check Wikipedia, not a search engine: the original article will take precedence rather than the more popular thing.

Admittedly I have no idea how resource-intensive this image processing is, but it's possible that it's less of a hit than the fact that all video call programs today run on HTML+JS. If Hangouts was a native program, there would be

I believe in a talk[1] it was mentioned that Rust's const eval will support heap-allocated values (accessed as references). A quick search suggests that C++20 will also support this, although it may be safer in Rust as it can give a st

Some of Zig's ideas fascinate me, both the great low-level concepts (e.g. arbitrary-sized ints), but much more than that, the high level concepts. Particularly great is Zig's handling of both macros and generic types, the answer t

Yep, the "conservative" government made a huge economic gamble, hoping it would pay off by not affecting the economy at all. It backfired, costing both jobs and lives.

I'm only mildly familiar with C++, but the support for template arguments in lambdas looks like an analogue for generic closures, which are absent from Rust, but would be really handy at times.

I interpreted OP as a criticism of the move, implying that it isn't enough to drive down healthcare cost in the US. Transparent pricing is something libertarians support, I would've thought.

Given the IPC gains of Zen 2, the single-threaded gap is closing, and even reversed in some workloads. And I think Xeon L3 cache tops out at about 40MB, whereas Threadripper & Epyc go up to 256MB.

That winner of that test, the 840 Pro, uses 2-bit (MLC) cells. Nowadays, 3-bit (TLC) and 4-bit (QLC) are much more common (not sure QLC even existed back then). So whilst each of these technologies has matured, the drive a consumer may cons
