If it's going to do that much "good" for humanity, then the dataset should be 0BSD or CC0, not proprietary. Project Gutenberg does good by archiving and allowing access to a lot of books and everything is under Creative Commo

Speaking from the user side on CI usability, SourceHut, while not supporting a cache (which would be dope), has been pretty good with Nix and supports running NixOS unstable as an image for CI. This has been better for me than wasting steps

Have you ever used GitHub or GitLab? They go down pretty frequently too.

I don't disagree. Luckily I just checked and it seemed the model was added to LVFS this month so I don't have to think about it so much.

It's not just mobile web. You need good accessibility--especially for keyboard--for this to work. But a lot of developers don't make their sites work without a pointer device. This is a problem on the web at large though. For inst

Very true in comparison to Instagram. Flickr doesn't strip your metadata and color profiles. They allow uploading actual rectangle photos instead of square or square-ish. They don't compress the hell out of the images. They store

You can't inline a font as an <img> either?? There are performance benefits to <img>, but generally people recommend <use> for SVGs.

Please don't use TTFs for your webfonts. They are far too big for the task and the optimized option, WOFF2, is so well supported that barring a future formats, I would consider all other formats deprecated for the web—don't even h

Agreed. It's been like 7 years since icon fonts were recommended and it's a real shame I still regularly see people do it today.

If you buy a nice panel, you won't be able to color calibrate it because of the use of Wayland; Wayland doesn't support color management yet.

Post C6, I was 100% out and only FOSS as well. Dedicating time to those tools have proven more than acceptable and on occasion I got to file a bug too. Of them, darktable and Hugin have been my favorites.

It'll be okay like Medium used to be until it isn't and the funders turn it into Medium while seeking that return on investment. You're still better off owning your own blog in the long run.

I mean I don't entirely disagree, but XHTML was not very popular and HTML5 demands some wiggle room like many tags can be omitted as per the spec.

Realistically? Many services charge by the seat, so for a service that doesn't get used to often, a lot of places will use a shared account as a cost-cutting measure. Subscriptions add up.

As roused as people get about browser monoculture, they should be doing the same about Git forge monoculture and centralization.
