Any decent library (of any sort) should already be providing hooks for its memory allocation. This isn't necessarily provided as a security feature, and it's common for your callbacks not to get much in the way of information abou

I went through a stint of coding in proportional fonts about 15 years ago. Mostly, I liked it (I used to use Verdana myself, I think?) - you can often get a fair bit more on screen widthwise, which means you can have more files side by side

I've been using the X 6x13 font for about 12-13 years. Though these days I've had to switch to a TrueType one that looks the same - presumably reproducing the pixels with hand-drawn boxes... Hack is quite nice in terms of the aspe

Yes, and that's "retard", the verb. A totally different word! (Maybe it depends on dialect, but as I've always heard it spoken, it doesn't even sound the same.) "They do put a retard" - here, the word &quo

I must be unaware of the other meaning of the noun "retard". As an alternative in this case, I might suggest, "brake".

How often is memset used to set the data to something other than zero? Probably even less often than strncpy copies a string that is exactly the length of the destination, I'd wager :) That is the evil genius of this bug.

I'm not the same person, but I don't use boost, and I avoid projects that depend on it, because every time I've used boost in the past it's always done dreadful things to the build time. Anything that uses boost always s

Pre-shifting and pre-rendering are two rather different things. If you could pre-render all of this, there'd be no question - you'd get 50Hz out of the ST, no problem! You'd use the hardware scrolling, and CPU usage would be

Try making a cross-platform one! Maybe you'll find out ;) (Less cheeky response: no two platforms handle this stuff in the same way. You'd be able to share such a small amount of code between platforms that you'd be better of

This comment got me wondering! 80% seems like something of an overestimate. But is my memory rusty? The ball looks like it's about 128 pixels wide and 100 pixels high, so 8 words x 100 rows. Note how the screen appears to be laid out i

No, but you can have that with pointers, since the constness of the pointer itself (i.e., whether you can change the address) is separate from the object it points to (i.e., whether it might point into ROM or not). So you can have T * (vari
