I started writing blog posts on Medium around 1,5 years ago. Some got pretty popular with 6k+ claps and many shares. But almost exactly when I started everything went downhill: - viewership dropped - shares dwindled - short, copy & past

sorry, this may seem pedantic, but what do you mean with “how”? I wouldn’t mind telling a short story or giving tips, just not sure what you are looking for in the responses. Financial, technical, organizational, legal, marketing, financial

Curious to what this means for the Berlin tech scene in general. Travis was certainly one of the trailblazers and a high visibility local startup (next to probably Soundcloud).

I'm not convinced all microservices ventures are failures. Having worked in the space a bit as a founder/CTO of a vendor in that space I've just seen many examples of misguided attempts due to fashion / CV-driven develop

I'd be interested in a related "microservices failure stories". Must be a big overlap with this.

Exactly. The stage keyboard is dead innovation wise. The synth market is alive and well. The whole modular boom, Korg's analogs, Moog and smaller vendors are making exciting stuff.

Not trying to be a smart ass here. I'm in a very similar boat as you, but have had / worked for other startups too. - $300 negative a month is very, very little cost for running a SaaS. You have fixed cost up front. - No marketing

Why was diversity here the reason for banning this stuff? I would expect the opposite: diverse as in many options, differences and preferences, not in restricting and banning. Was this in US by chance?

Well, this 100% depends on the cultural context. In many countries work and alcohol are fairly normal and not considered an issue. Go to the south of France and get a job there, you’ll see a very interesting take on this topic.

Not a doctor or expert, but in my experience in tech and startups I noticed a strong difference between (younger) American coworkers and Europeans. Alcohol seemed totally normal to Europeans (and also declining alcohol was never a big deal)

These are called mikrolet or minibus in countries like Indonesia. Super cheap, super convenient. Haven’t seen a similar thing in the Western world.

Yes, I get that the extension operates within the user's auth realm. But still it should not be able to access data you as a user cannot access. Maybe this is already enough to do damage though.

But how is this data accessible to the extension? I ‘m not an expert, but it seems that this data has to publicly available for an extension to find and parse it. Extensions don’t have magic Auth rights or credentials.

I don’t get it. How can a browser extension mine data that otherwise is inaccessible? This should be covered by basic RBAC. Or are they just convenient scrapers, saving time but otherwise not accessing privileged information. If so, the Lin

Huge synth head here. He will be missed. The Korg remakes of the Odyssey are great machines for those not wanting (or having the money) to dive into vintage madness. Now Korg should reissue the 2600 in his memory. For under $1500..

My SO is a journalist in Germany. She's all over this. Not clear if there are any clear "scandals". Would be fantasticly German if absolutely nothing fishy shows up.

I heared that cops tend to respond very quickly and seriously to noise complaints as such situations have a tendency to get out of hand and turn into violence or worse.

I would say architecting for Lambda is easier and quicker than “traditional” by now. Was a bit flaky in the beginning, admittedly.

This completely depends on what the startup is doing. For my use case (company name in profile) auto scaling is a god send due to individual users being able to influence how much work our jobs backend needs to do. This impossible to calcul

Lock in is very easy to avoid. Keep you business logic in separate modules and wrap any specific cloud sdk calls in helper functions. Any major move to a new provider should be much easier. Lock in is often a non-concern if you stick to ba

Well, at least you have a business. I find vendor lock in to be about the lowest priority on my list. Also, the lock in is pretty exaggerated. Just make sure to keep business logic separate from the cloud plumbing, as per the OP example.

Absolutely. Saving 30% on a cloud bill is not a super high priority for new companies. Staying frugal is important, but I find this mostly applies to unnecessary expenses, not necessary but slightly more costly expenses. Don’t get the 27” i

Next to the nice drawings and good tips on testing I 100% agree with the message. Lambda has enabled me to run a fledgling business and I’m porting my last Puppeteer EC2 workloads to Lambda as we speak. Node 8 and the new Layers feature mad
