I see a lot of Parse comparisons, but for me this is way more like Force.com from Salesforce and the Apex language. Proprietary language (Apex, which is Java 6-ish), complete vertical integration, no open source spec or implementation.

Ok, so how do you explain the blistering speed at which AWS (not Amazon) releases new services, updates and features. Not being smarty pants here; It truly boggles my mind how fast they move.

I'd argue the opposite. Only a relative handful of companies, startups etc. encounter the problems IAC solves. Most do fine without it. Or maybe they use Puppet or Chef. Most won't even need that.

...and the crux of the problem is where people who have never encountered the problem Kubernetes solves, still start using Kubernetes.

If you replace AWS with Heroku in your statement, I agree. Heroku abstracts the redundant AWS resources for you so you can just “run your app”. However, Heroku also had a huge outage. That is way more problematic as far as I am concerned.

The analog synthesizer scene is probably even worse, cork sniffing wise. Only outranked by the HIFI vinyl scene.

When I was there talking it was already abundantly clear an IPO was in the works. So, no. I don’t regret anything and am totally fine with the outcome.

Their product is great. But the people I met there last year during a maybe-but-not-quite acquihire adventure we're also great. I wish them all the best with this IPO. For those interested, I wrote a blog about what it's like for

These are journalistic organizations. Not tech companies selling ads. Sure, newspapers sell a ton of ads, but they tend to balance the news and the commercial sides way better and more delicate than your average SV tech corps.

Maybe what you are after (I think...) is some form of code ethics like the code of Bordeaux for journalists [0] but then also applicable to tech corporations in Silicon Valley. Many journalists and more important journalistic organizations

Off topic, sort of. You can get a free 2 hour tour of CERN and the LHC buildings in Geneva. Did it last year and was awesome. Tour guides are working scientists, not PR department employees.

I get people get all riled up about this. Even more when they are young and have no real perspective. But it gives tech workers in general a really bad vibe. Pompous, spoiled brats. Of course, most of these people are nice human beings, but

I regularly have chuckles with friends about entitled tech workers. Complaining about the type of bottled water, the gym compensation plan, the type of company laptop. It's really sad.

Correct. Living in Berlin for 5 years now and do almost everything by bike. Change is extremely slow or non existent. Some stuff is going on in Kreuzberg and Mitte, but it’ Taking ages.

This sounds like a great trajectory. Like how starting with a broken SLO is fine. Bit like starting with a failing test and making it pass. Did you have trouble using tooling to measure and report these SLO’s?

My only question is why they built their own login system? Isn't this a golden rule: never build your own auth.

I guess this is to be expected. HN is totally not the target audience for this. A closed, proprietary coding system is bound to be scrutinized by a site that has “hacker” in its name. No idea what that tweet is meant to say though. People w

This reminds me a lot of the Salesforce Apex platform where the language, runtime, datamodel, hosting and all infra is part of one package. But Salesforce has a very specific niche, this seems to be for general purpose web dev and I’m prett
