Usually I'm dealing with about 20mb of compressed data, almost 100mb uncompressed. Even with only a couple mb of data SQLite still has a startup time of a couple hundred milliseconds on my phone. But that's a couple hundred millis

Yeah, I probably should since I want to add glob or regex support later. It's a little out of the scope of stringzilla but I should still be able to use it for the heavy lifting

I love SQLite, I love the idea, I love having something mature and lightweight, but like the author I discovered it's overkill or dare I say insufficient for certain use cases. I was building a client side dictionary app with search fu

I did some tests for my web app and I came to the conclusion that zstd -19 gave me the best results for small file sizes and fast decompression of text data. It's amazing that you can include a 50kb zstd decompression wasm module and r

Even back in the day you had to buy programming books and courses if you wanted to learn how to make the best code. That wasn't free. It's really not all that different from LLMs, you can code without them, but they're a good

It's fun to play with the numbers though I think these kind of things always rely on the fallacy of scarcity. Elon Musk's wealth affects me in no way. He didn't get money by stealing from me, he got money by creating things.

Rambus goes VROOM Vroom. Would all of this still be applicable for string comparisons? Would I have to hash my strings first?

I tried reading the dragon book in my teens, never really understood it, it was too much theory for me. I'd recommend starting with implementing a forth since it's the easiest language to write an interpreter/compiler for. Fr

I recommend that everyone learn some "bad" programming languages to unlearn some useless paradigms and hype. You should learn Java so that you can get sick of OOP and over engineered boilerplate. (I heard they're fixing this

I really don't know what their excuse is. If they were actually developing and improving their platform that'd be one thing, but they still haven't implemented custom headers in GitHub pages or custom mime types. I had to tac

We can change the terms to be less derogatory, but eventually the term will become derogatory because vibe coding is always going to be looked down on. It's just like our nice terms for mentally handicapped people, eventually all the t

In Cambodia they used to have 6-10 kids each, then 3-5, and now every Cambodian just wants 2 children, 1 boy, 1 girl. The reasons? Mostly economic I guess. Even though school is free you have to have enough money to buy your kids junk food

Naw, developers will always be enthusiastic about stuff even if it's crap. I used to really like SQLite and think that I should use it for everything, but after using it for a couple years I realized it's just not the right tool f

Since you're doing this is rust, try experimenting to see what would happen if you did zstd compression using a dictionary on the data you're sending back and forth, it might give you a performance benefit.
