Google for a class in (classical) control theory. This is a standard topic for electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering programs. For implementing a PID loop, you can do it in pretty much any language you want -- it's relativel

Lot's of schools don't put robotics in CS. They put it in EE or ME. Computer vision is often a CS class, but control theory and other subjects that involve interacting with the physical world are often placed in other departments

It's helpful if you are reading literature actively. If you are interested in some new technique and want to understand the theoretical aspects of it, then knowing analysis will be useful in deciphering the presented proofs. It may als

I agree. Too many people conflate a computer science degree with the ability to code. The real purpose of a computer science degree is to learn to model, analyze, and solve problems in a computational framework. Mathematics is the language

For sure, but a cheat sheet can still be useful. For example, the I find matrix cookbook very useful when I don't feel like rederiving derivatives of nontrivial linear algebra expressions.

Making a Gameboy emulator was one of my favorite and most instructive personal projects. It's worth noting that there was actual extra hardware built into the carts, so you need to implement certain features like extra RAM based on the

> Boosting is another example. It really is stranger than fiction. Is this true? Boosting is pretty well formulated in the PAC framework and the classical algorithms (e.g. Adaboost) are well-characterized.

My advice is that most learning takes place outside of the classroom. I learned more when I joined a research group in my third year than I did in my first two years combined. That said, take as much math as you can. You don't need a l

Yup You can trace the origins of the ANN to the 40s and 50s. Since then, statistical ML has come into vogue a few times, but not like today. Phones and other data sources (plus the algorithms to properly deal with all the data) have ushered
