Eh, no biggie, a few pages of gotchas. If we were talking about PHP, I could write a few volumes.

Good point, but one could also take note of the number he dialed on the telephone in the video.

I'd say companies are less locked into Windows the OS and more so tied to binary compatibility with Windows products. I've been watching and using Wine since the project began, and it has made unbelievable progress in the last decade. Given

This is just more evidence that it's one of the greatest pieces of open source software ever written.

Saw the author of Replica Island talk at Google IO. He's worked for nintendo among other handheld companies and really knows his stuff. He works for Google now and developed Replica Island as his 20% project. I'm glad that his software runs

Very excited about this book. Both chouser and fogus are ripe with deep knowledge of Clojure. It's great to see more books coming down the pipe as they'll only further the adoption of the language as a whole.

It runs in an animated fashion, so it'd be difficult to upload. Those without pygame can rest knowing that the comic is very close to accurate (assuming the program is accurate).

One exception would be in multi-threaded applications. JRuby is the best choice in this domain from my experience. Ruby 1.9 still uses a GIL making JRuby a better choice for concurrent software.

Ok, I didn't make the distinction regarding local function scope. Clojure distinguishes these types of values as "transients", and yes, they definitely provide value in regard to both convenience and performance.

The rationale behind immutable (a.k.a. unchangeable) variables is rooted in Erlang being designed as a concurrent functional programming language from the bottom up. Whenever you have multiple operations manipulating a single value, you're

I became interested in e17 nine years ago when its development started. I'm not sure if I should feel impressed or cynical at this point. When I was first learning Linux back before the turn of the century, I found enlightenment to be the m

Misleading title at best as Hadoop is a framework for the management and execution of map/reduce while the article demonstrates a map/reduce operation in R. I guess Hadoop has been ported to Clojure as well since I can just say: (apply + (r

Clojure has a few different concurrency mechanisms. Agents are useful for asynchronous manipulation of mutable state while refs allow for coordinated synchronous changes. Atoms allow uncoordinated synchronous access to state while vars act

I think this might be a misnomer in that NoSQL in the general sense describes a set of technologies acting as value stores rather than a standardized language for accessing said values.

To compare apples to apples, Clojure's agents are also allocated from a thread pool allowing many agents per thread. I'd imagine you'd see similar performance between the two.

From a performance perspective, it does not matter if every file on your filesystem sits in a single directory. The only thing directories provide are namespaces for files to reside in and convenience.

Does this also mean Erlang will ship with Ubuntu? That'd be a nice bonus.

With the added benefit that it will warn you if you're not really in tail position. The only place where recur falls flat is with mutual recursion in which case you need to use trampoline. I love me some Clojure.
