The UI is hosted on Github pages: there's no server-side code. The only required server-side component is https://github.com/prose/gatekeeper - an app that makes OAuth possible with CORS.

Well, Windows-supporting hardware is cheap. Raspberry PIs don't have the processing power to run anything more than basic HTML pages. Finding 'cheap macs' is a losing battle - Apple hardware holds its value. Running Linux on

On a stick, the world (via OSM) is around 33GB. It's 300+GB in PostGIS, so about a 10x win.

The action/creativity editing of bills into the law is not a justification for copyright, and it has not been used by West (or any other entity) to claim copyright. West claims copyright on design, annotations, citation, and database struct

Point taken :), the name is quirky, hard to google, and surely used for other things. The eventual goal, though, is for it to be just 'the openstreetmap editor' with iD being a codename - so the problem will 'go away'.
