My gut tells me this would also work for news. A lot of evidence to support the opposite of what was reported tends to appear 1-2 years later but that never gets reported on as much as the original story.

No idea why it stopped. I tried reinstalling it, but it is not working with simple examples. Tesseract is working so I am sticking with that for now.

Back when I use to listen to a lot of podcasts, there was a guest sitting in for Tim Ferris on his podcast. The guy talked about just trying to take away one idea from what you read rather than trying to take a whole bunch of notes you’ll n

I think the zettelkasten method works so well not because people record single thoughts, but because there is a process of revisiting and reviewing those thoughts and how they relate to other thoughts.

This reminds me a little bit of the idea of affirmations as a filter on the mind. We tend to notice stuff based on our affirmations.

I think LLMs are good for quick prototyping first drafts of small functions or simple systems. For me they help when time is short and when I want to maximize creative exploration.

I was using a Python module called easyocr. It was working for a while, but stopped recently. I switched over to pytesseract, a wrapper for tesseract. It was pretty simple to use and I got it working in 10 minutes.

This question reminds me of the book A Mathematician's Lament by Paul Lockhart. He lays out a really good case for why we don't have more mathematicians.

I often wonder why we don't provide free university education in the US. It would benefit society and employers as a whole.

When I went to RIT it was 14k a year. It has to be quite a bit more now. Overall a great school and worth the money at the time.

How would you identify which state actor? We don't know who is in this country.

What if that example of the production of NYT article under the hood is ChatGPT just fetching a fast cache of the article then paraphrasing it. How would that be any different than Google displaying some type of news headline?

How do you figure? I see it more likely the US gets a major electrical blackout right in the middle of winter due to some foreign state actors as a higher likelihood than WW3.

Here are my guesses for 2024 FED cuts rates for politics but ends up making things worse in the medium term. Timing is off and a mini realestate crash happens. One major bank goes bust and needs a taxpayer bailout in the US. A large number

Just because someone writes an article and cites increased labor costs, doesn't make it true. There are a lot of other factors that are driving prices.

It does, I still have some journals from 2001. I had a bad habit of keeping notes all over the place in physical form. It seemed having things searchable was a better value proposition to me.

Remember Google Reader? If this is how they are going to treat customers, it is probably not a good strategy to build a business around any of their products including their new AI stuff.
