I quite love the four-way KVM switch I use on my desk. One trackball, one mechanical keyboard, hooked up to four laptops (or occasionally a raspberry pi or two.) Couple keystrokes to switch computers, so I can bounce back and forth easily.

I do chuckle at one of mine, who definitely has a range of meanings to her barks. One solitary "WOOF", repeated at an interval means, "I'm stuck in the paddock, please let me out." She has another for "I'v

Any thoughts on the various action cameras for underwater? I've got an inexpensive (not GoPro) one that I've taken diving. It's just in looping video mode, cutting a new clip every few minutes, and could certainly use additio

Thanks, just seems like much ado about nothing, other than that last part. I know I've got a wealth of devices that have the various formats, mostly micro. Their functionality still seems fine, so the anguish that pops up from time to

I see people complain about Micro-USB in various places, and am not quite sure what the problem is. You're connecting to some relatively small, low-power device, not powering a beefy laptop. Is it problematic to have too many cables in

Yes, but Nix is essentially about getting things built, so those build tools are part of the recipe to make something happen. I'm still learning Nix myself, but one small example: a small, Haskell-based utility I've written depend

Really, that recovery after power loss is one of those minor-but-irritating things that seems to come up often. Couple examples: I bought a "smart" power bar, mostly for shits 'n giggles. Other than being able to control it w

Thanks for the update! I find myself in a similar boat for small projects. One approach that I have found useful is to make sure that any stored data is in a form that is approachable from a portable standpoint, not coupled tightly to any o

Locally-encrypted, cloud-synced is sort of the sweet spot I find for Standard Notes, so I am a paid subscriber. It is easy to use across different devices and operating systems, and they do a good job of continuing to give me access to my o

I'm curious about how the project evolved, since "an ungodly mix of Perl and Haskell" is not a phrase one might expect to see very often. If not open-sourced, can you say more about which pieces are where? In any case, I quit

Oh, guessing the latter, thanks! I hadn't added anything for a secondary or bottling stage. I am used to regular beer brewing, I think that runs out of steam sooner. Will have to try the two-bowl method.

Now, how about limiting the fermentation after bottling? I have a couple bottles still in the fridge, that I now call "kombucha grenades." I thought I could open the last one I tried safely, in the sink, and it basically hosed th

Oh, I had the 68010, not the rest though, since it was drop-in compatible. I gave mine to a friend, wonder what became of that thing. Such a nice little machine.

Very cool. I just picked up a more portable, refurbished T450s to use for when travel or general portability matters, as well as being less to worry about than my primary device. Is there a good site for recommended upgrades by model? I&#x2

I got the 4MB card for mine, since I worked at a computer shop and could get a staff discount. The only catch was that you had to solder a wire from that to the motherboard, which I had done with one of those trigger-operated soldering guns

That is a useful point, though I think it means that the wording difference does double duty. There is the legal aspect you mention, and the public relations improvement of papering over the human problems that arise when, "roles are i

Another thing that is good to encourage is portable data. It's good for its own reasons, and it makes that sort of exploratory environment much more flexible. I've reimplemented a few side projects more than once, using common dat

Also, the character that might be used to delineate aliases can be defined, at least if you have control of the email host. Some hosts will complain about their name as part of the email address, but usually some near-match will suffice.

That hasn't been the case since the Retina models. My mid-2013 Retina MBP had to have the battery replaced, which involved the top case, track pad, keyboard... and the battery. And then the charging circuit went on the motherboard, for
