It's quite a coincidence that you both mention Manufactured Landscapes and I happen to be currently watching it on Sundance. I'm a fan of Burtynsky but had never heard of the movie before. Synchronicity.

They're interesting to me because of all the technologies that huge platforms like Google and Facebook spawn. For instance when Facebook launched the Places API, there were 3-4 Places apps out there within a week or two. For that reason the

Anyone inside Google care to anonymously comment how morale is over there these days? Why so many people jumping ship? Is it purely about money, or something else?

to go from not knowing how to make a <form> to doing all of this in 4 weeks is majorly impressive. and the site has a really nice, unique look and feel. good work!

Seems like a desperation move. Can you imagine the exciting, dynamic Google of 5 years ago thinking ""Uh.. give them slightly more money?" was a great solution to this problem?

I find it interesting to watch the telecommuting life style emerge and how people cope with the feelings of isolation and the unusual schedule. For instance: some of the telecommuters I know end up spending more time at bars and stuff like

Create an account. Open a service ticket. Wait hours for response. Plus no firewall options on your Nitro servers, at that price range, is ridiculous and way below the standards of the industry.

+1. In the past 24 months I've used Rackspace, ThePlanet, SoftLayer, Slicehost, Linode and the terrible Mediatemple. I'm doing all future development on Linode. Their basic VPS is pretty quick for the price and it's online almost instantly.

More time spent interacting with a site means more opportunities for advertising (in all its forms), and that's what these companies live by. You don't think Google wishes they had a successful social product similar to Facebook?

We definitely don't need all the fluff, and I like the philosophical cleanliness of Lisp (from a distance), but to me it seems like too basic of a building block to think with. Haskell's point free style and K's vector building blocks seem

I've started doing the basic version of this: in my case, before I quote something, I'll ask for a detailed written explanation of what it is, even if I will still meet with them to discuss it further and think through my part of the estima

Are you worried that the domain itself won't give any boost to your SEO efforts? Because I wouldn't really worry about that aspect of it - even bad domains rank fairly well these days. I think Google realized that aspect of the system (doma

I feel like this should best be handled by outside apps rather than the FB platform itself. Edit: Perhaps I should offer the disclaimer that my suite of Facebook tools (fanbldr.com) will eventually include some Places-linked features.

Ok, so does that mean you'd rather work at Google instead of Facebook? Right now, Facebook is doing stuff that is more interesting for programmers I suspect.

One way of looking at it: Facebook has changed the way people communicate and socialize with each other. I think in some ways that is more fundamental than what Google has done - change the way people search. Furthermore, Google has seemed
