RAMnode has been pretty good for very fast mid-range SSD VPSes (watch their Twitter; they have 30% off specials all the time). SoftLayer also supports SSDs but they aren't low end, for the most part. I'm a happy customer of both but an empl

Minor FYI: for this who want to play with Proxies right now, you can use a recent-ish copy of node invoked with node --harmony_proxies Enjoy!

Thanks for the amazingly detailed response! I'm still unclear about one thing: Couldn't you simply throw an exception if the type annotation did not match your usage of it? For instance: /* v8-type: string, string -> string */ f

Naive question from a person that has never had much luck making a compiler: Instead of all the complicated type guessing and hidden class coercion, why not build some kind of optional Erlang-style typesec[0] system based on Javascript comm

Here's my take: I don't think this is an alternative to another product. Instead I think it's something fairly new and interesting: they built a tool which takes your tokenized source code (presumably only in Clojure) and your git log and m

Is there a master list of iOS6 changes to browser behavior? It kills me that stuff like this is still trickling out.

I wish Typescript would add "implied return of last statement" to the short function syntax! I love that feature in Erlang.

Apparently ECMAScript 6 is considering some other forms of function literals as well: http://www.2ality.com/2012/04/arrow-functions.html

Weird that I didn't spot a friendly list of features.. seems to have some cool ones, like a shortened function expression (from the doc PDF): (x) => { return Math.sin(x); } and modules, which are implemented using the immediate

That may have just been because they want to emphasize a native mobile app rather than HTML5-based mobile experiences, and Google has not yet released their own native maps app for iOS.

In case you're wondering whatever happened to this bug, it's still happening! I installed the latest release of Lighttpd a few weeks ago and it happened on one of our sites. So amazing to see the same bug still kicking after 3-4 years..

If you can turn that behavior on and off (by using getLastError or whatever), why not have this feature? If I'm logging upvotes on a post or comments on a blog, which is about as serious as 99% of these b.s. startups are doing, I think it's

+1. The search results for this could merge in commits and be a really valuable way to figure out whats going on in a well factored, modular codebase where things can be spread out in many different tangled folders. Something like 'ack for

Node is no panacea, but that's not quite true about stable APIs. npm is great about maintaining separately versioned libraries and reducing conflicts. In your package.json can specify what version of a library to use and npm mostly figures

You know how a lot of jQuery functions take either a string, or a function, or an array of strings, etc? Instead of making those decisions in your code in a series of IF statements, you could use this library and just maintain a "map" of th

I would love to read that. Having a strong sandbox as a tool makes all kinds of interest things possible. p.s. My last name is Lackner. Glad to meet someone else with the unfortunate Lack- prefix.

Great email.. one of the most convincing and sincere high level apologies I've read. Perhaps, for once, the future is looking bright for Paypal. I could have done without the "forwarded from my iPad" at the bottom though.

Back in the crusty old days, FreeBSD used to take forever to install over the network, but would start an "emergency holographic shell" on pty4. The 'echo *' trick and various other shell built-ins were very useful for exploring the system

All of these routers work under Nginx or Lighttpd, they just need a different config file. Here's one that is often used under Nginx: location { root /usr/share/nginx/html; index index.php index.html index.htm;

For now the problem is consuming it. For instance, it seems Google still hasn't implemented a full API around the Audio object which could be used to flow wave data through your program. See here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/d
