The PBS Newshour You can watch the 1 hour, no commercial, programs online on their site. In my opinion this is the only professional national nightly news program in America. They do not lack journalistic integrity or show 'fluff' stories.

I've also often wondered if the language one thinks in has any effect on cognition or the "efficiency" of thought (if that even makes sense).

I agree with everything up to the last statement after the ellipsis. There is economic justification for risking environmental damage. More offshore drilling = cheaper oil; More offshore drilling = more jobs (to name a couple). I don't th

That's interesting. I can't tell if you're joking or not (I'm pretty sure the ability to loop is a requirement for Turing-completeness). Do you mean like Lisp which favors recursive function (or lambda calculus which uses the Y-combinator :

Why don't we have programs like this today? This is awesome. Make sure you keep watching after main show is over.

Yeah, it's entirely possible I don't understand what they were doing but that first example (the "Sunday" program), just seems like a lot of `if` statements.

I think you're failing to distinguish between an argument about objective reality and an argument about emotion and belief. The Pope and Al Qaeda want to persuade you that their belief system is the best. Galileo wanted to prove to you that

According to the graph there are more males than females (percentage wise) with an IQ lower than 95. Males are "overrepresented" in the <95 IQ range.

I'm still hung up on exactly how this gender bias (in either direction) actually manifests itself in the classroom. The derivative with respect to x of x^2 is 2x regardless of what gender you are. The Americans won the Revolutionary war reg

According to the graph in the middle of the article (unless I'm reading it wrong) it would seem that there are more male geniuses. The graph then, would seem to indicate that the sort of tests that determine a child's eligibility for entr

Well first of all, it's not my definition of capitalism. It's Adam Smith's. When people think of 'capitalism' they usually think of anarchy and large mega-corporations that destroy the environment and do whatever the hell they want. There

At the heart of it all, you want me to prove that Capitalism isn't the best economic model because you fancy this extremely primitive means of sharing resources. That's fine. My god. Are you aware that you are the one with a near-religi

All I've stated thus far is that Capitalism is a stepping stone to something better. That is in itself an argument. You are asserting that capitalism is not an ideal system but you are not backing up that assertion. The core idea of the
