GDPR doesn't protect privacy of data, it regulates how any collected data is stored and used and requires consent of the person. As a US-based developer, all it does is make it more irritating to build anything that europeans might use

Once the camera is there, the temptation for future governments to use this power for more things than originally required will become irresistible. also: https://www.google.com/search?q=what+does+slippery+slope+mea...

It's so incredible the difference in mindset across the Atlantic. In the US, it is MY job and no one else's to make sure I don't fall asleep driving my own car. In the same way it's my job to make sure I don't leave

Maybe I'll get downvoted for being off topic, but when we try to say "EU has too much regulation", this is the kind of shit we're talking about. Nobody is arguing for zero regulation. But seriously, forcing people to pay

CP = copyrighted property? I don't know what this means. Yes, illegal things are illegal. Legal things are not illegal. It's very simple. If a "local LLM" (good luck defining that in law) were made illegal, then a petiti

Nemotron Ultra is extremely competitive. gemma4 beats many 200B+ parameter models at a 31b size. gpt-oss is still a workhorse in many of my workflows despite being almost a year old now. I'm all for more OSS models by American companie

All I'm asking is that we be consistent in our outrage. If you don't like what's happening now, I understand that point of view. But to pretend it didn't happen already is mind boggling. If for some reason you don't

I've been programming for 25 years now because I really like it. But if it didn't pay, I'd do something else, because I really like not being poor even more.

There's gpt-oss from OpenAI, gemma from Google, phi from Microsoft, granite from IBM, nemotron from NVIDIA, Ornith from DeepReinforce, Olmo from the Allen Institute. Aside from that you're 100% correct.

In the US at least, repealing a law takes the same number of votes as passing a new one. I don't follow the purpose of this, unless it's to pass a constitutional amendment or something. Or maybe just to get clicks on a website. An

I remember the Cisco (!!) table was the most popular table at the campus job fair, and they turned away anyone without a 3.8+ GPA. I had a 2.42 (2.40 was minimum degree requirement). Dodged a bullet there. I've worked happily at a FAAN
