If there was a greater tax base in Texas a more robust energy infrastructure could have been in place. However; their votership preferred to keep things as is. They suffered the consequences. This is very, very simple.

Maybe prices are high for something like a vintage guitar or synth but in my experience everything else is comparable to eBay or whatever. I sold the vintage synth on Craigslist because it took too long on reverb. I’m glad I didn’t have to

Semi-unrelated; I’ve been using reverb to sell a bunch of my gear for the past few months or so and the experience has been pretty good. It’s essentially eBay but curated which is a great idea. For the one actually “large/expensive” pi

I kinda wish my title was simply “Systems Administrator” which is probably the closest thing to a “software mechanic” that we have. Most of our titles have been inflated however.

Agreed. I can’t focus when my toddler is running around screaming. I love her; but I miss my office. In fact I simply miss the ritual of leaving my home and returning every day. I’ve been doing this for a few years, though. Long dog walks h

Seems like a good thing. Leisure travel seems more critical than business travel if business travel isn’t necessary- and I think most of us would be hard pressed to give up leisure travel. Don’t make me burn jet fuel for work if it’s not ne

In reality I saw employee #1 switch to a different project and take 3 months off. Seems reasonable. I was happy taking a Friday off here and there when I needed and taking weeks off when I moved. This was in addition to my regular vacations

I wasn’t on a naughty list at my place place. I was encouraged to take time off and would regularly do so, even on short notice. Maybe somewhat of a hate the player situation. It can be done right and I’ve seen it- and I miss it.

Yeah I think it creates an insane inversion where the people there the longest can effectively have unlimited PTO and the people that are new are fucked. I was just talking about this with my wife.

I’m back at a more traditional company after being at a startup for two years and the unlimited PTO was amazing. It wasn’t passive aggressive at all and now I sit here one my hands waiting to accumulate enough pto to take an extended break.

It’s so crazy to see people spend so much time talking about something I literally never have to deal with ever. And I live in a very big city on the west coast. One wonders if the bogie is in their minds.

People have been saying SV will be the next Detroit on HN for the past 5 years. I think this might be more of a wish than based in any sort of reality. Perhaps if it _does_ go the way of Detroit then I can afford to move there!
