the spec says they can be used for that and you could easily have a server that checks the HTTP Accept if there is no extension. Most likely you need to hyperlink to many of the resources so you're going to need the extension anyway (eg /em

the lack of chance of massive payoff is probably balanced by a stable income. I got a feeling that if you are the kind of person that worries about any job, you'll worry about all jobs. (For certain values of "worry".)

it's also a shortcut to stressville. It's fine in school where semesters are short and assignments are shorter, but doesn't scale out to the workplace very well.

it is important for a site to provide users, who are already there, an easy way to search. It complements navigation. Doesn't really matter if it's custom or backed by something like google. Some random standalone search specifically built

I had a lecturer in CS who didn't really code and would freely admit it. A LOT of what she lectured stuck and I've used it everyday in my programming jobs. CS != programming.

to be fair, if you aren't good at design then your "same design on every page" design probably isn't very good either. I really like the way they are presenting information -- there really is a problem on the web of nav-on-the-top-and-left,

The solution to having no tests is adding tests. The solution to overgrown, unreadable, unmaintainable code is refactoring. A rewrite would take about 2 years probably (using some very naive calculations).
