What aspect of PHP is "very very good"? Genuinely curious to know.

It's true that Bill Gates saw the future very early on, although he never managed to make anything good in either tablets or the online collaboration/synchronization space (especially the latter which Microsoft has attacked time and tim

Precisely. Perhaps most famously his total failure to foresee the successes of iPad, iPhone and then iPad. Ballmer laughing these devices off rather than seeing the future in them was painful to watch. Another tangential favorite is when Mo

It's disappointing to those of us standing on the sideline enjoying the show. But it must be very comforting for App developers, knowing that Apple is standing by them.

I'm so tired of this strawman. The Mac was never "magically immune" to malware. Just because technically challenged people believe that doesn't make it true, and there is no reason for us to "disprove" it with great fanfare every chance we

ASP.NET MVC is a far closer imitation of Ruby on Rails than either CakePHP or even Groovy on Grails. Django isn't even an imitation, by any stretch of the imagination. The similarities between ASP.NET MVC and Rails aren't just that they b

FOSS is adequate and .NET is the best solution, huh? How do you reconcile that with the fact that .NET MVC is a blushingly obvious imitation of Ruby on Rails?

One of my mottos is that it is far easier to change yourself than it is to change the world, even if you've done nothing wrong yourself. Trying to change everybody to live by that code is quite a bit harder than to adapt to the situation we

I think you underestimate the power of coal plant incidents and hydropower incidents. They're no joke. Chernobyl, an INES-7 killed 56 people. Plus another 4000 from radiation. As previously linked, check these out: http://en.wikipedia.org/

Well, why do reactors grow old to begin with? Because nuclear isn't an area where funding for research is pouring in. Had we not pulled the nuclear handbreak, we wouldn't be stuck with aging reactors in the first place. Now that we have the

Sure it's a bad thing, but how can anyone possibly rationalize away the fact that coal plants kill more people than nuclear plants per kilowatt hour produced? For every one person killed by nuclear plants, thousands die because of coal, a

On an iOS device, HTTP streaming would be the way (other clients like VLC support it too). http://arstechnica.com/web/news/2009/07/apple-proposes-http-... It's got nothing to do with HTML5 though, which I think is a good thing.

If you are capable of switching editors, what does it matter if it's closed source or not? This adversity to switching editors is a common trait in programmers I can't quite understand. We programmers learn new things all the time, it's par

Two reasons: Apple's approval process and the paper trail. The approval process, while not guaranteed to catch malware, serves as a deterrent to evildoers because they know that at least some review will be made of their app, functionally
