To protect yourself from damage and code corruption, use source control and tests in combination with code reviews and coding standards. Don't use a straightjacket for a language. The Rails community with all its various gem and plugin auth

But enforcing that law means breaking an other inalienable human right; that of privacy. And I'd say that law is more important.

I don't believe that for a second. It sure doesn't explain why Flash isn't performant on Linux, or are you going to blame that on Linus Torvalds?

Let's add insult to injury: Apple has reported that a majority of crashes on a Mac — across the board — are due to Flash.

Adobe can't even make a performant flash plugin for Mac OS X or Linux, why on god's green earth would it be any different for lesser hardware?

Also, I don't think the difficulty of coding something up has any real baring on how well it does.

Assuming your exposure on Haystack brought you business worth substantially more than $99 a month, why ought you be in a position to demand anything at all?

That helps them get exposure, but it does not guarantee long-term success. Besides, 37signals weren't born with their readership, they built it.

It didn't require a super-unique idea that needed to be rushed to market before the window of opportunity closed, either. Just another common idea, executed well. (Ok, so they're not quite there yet.)

If they make a small fortune from this, it'll be because the having the pro account brings a lot more than $99 to the designer; i.e. because of the value of the service provided, not the cost of signing up. Because if the service doesn't

I'm really disappointed to learn this. I've been really curious as to how Palm succeeded to make their apps based on javascript so fast as to be even comparable with iPhone apps. Turns out they haven't, they've just got really low standards

It's never been about elitism for Apple, that's just the way the people who don't buy Apple perceive it. Apple has used a slogan like the following for several of their products: "X for the rest of us", where X is some product or service

If you don't think the AppStore approval process squashes bugs then you're simply ignorant about the feedback developers get from them. Sure, not everybody doing iPhone apps are bathing in cash. But before the iPhone came along, there was
