Lets not talk it up more than necessary, staying within the ecosystem is mostly a convenience. I appreciate the reluctance to change over something minor, the point is a bit broader though. Be aware and maybe consider it for the future.

Maybe be the change you want to see in the world and don't use/support the most closed ecosystem? The alternatives are not prefect, nothing is. But they are all more open and that is something we can build upon.

Edge-lit is first and foremost a cost-cutting design. It allowed the thin-craze to advance significantly but edge-lit is also used where thinness isn't prioritized. Because it is primarily the cheapest design they've been able to

The risk with that approach is that every other of the hundreds of developers will bring their own tool for X. So now you have hundreds of tools and everyone only knows a subset. If there is a common operation that people get wrong or don&#

You update your submodules every day? Also, the discussions are there because it's been more than a decade and the options have evolved over time. Submodules are a bit clunky but the problem it solves is itself clunky. Bringing in anot

I know. But this old NAT vs. firewall crap was pointless decades ago. Still is.

That is because most systems comes with a firewall on and fairly limited surface area in the form of exposed services. But, there are billions of other devices (IoT etc). that barely has any security protections in place that rely completel

Doesn't change anything, consent and whether you own the device is everything. The comparison with VPNs doesn't hold either, because for all their faults VPNs do not decrypt traffic going through them.

Context isn't the same as syntax? Yes, command line suffers from discoverability of which different applications (such as ln/mklink) may not be consistent. It is one of the bigger problems (imho) of the cli but it doesn't go

Situation is different though, we have very few modern filesystems and have desperately needed some diversion and competition in this area. I've been waiting decades for something like bcachefs, thought it would be btrfs but that turne

I'm trying to pay an amount that makes sense though. It is like the olden days, where piracy of Photoshop didn't put a dent in Adobe. They got free advertising and everyone grew up learning their product. But since you could get t

Every single service is per user and it adds up. Communications are essential, but there doesn't have to be much to it either. Most communications are 1-1 anyway. We could do everything by SMS and email I guess, it is just not built fo

Zulip had flown under the radar for me, looks interesting but the pricing makes me a bit sad. We are a small team, but would probably need like 11 accounts so with self-hosting that puts up us to just about $40 a month only for the sake o

Reducing luck is bad, how? There are scales of it, reducing luck in the sense that you don't require a perfect course. That a speck of dust ruins your run etc. is, within reason, part of the game. But flying blind into a maze and just
