Agreed and you can use debt very safely if your net position is in credit. For one example I'm always amazed at how many people don't take advantage of the interest free period of credit cards. As long as you have enough savings p

That was my guess too. Apparently Starlink satellites go quiet over the area too but there is still some detectable EMF.

One advantage of heating water over sand is that you can heat it up with high temperature heat pumps which currently have CoPs ranging between 2.4 to 5.8 [1]. So for every kW of electrical energy you put in you get at least 2.4kW of thermal

Would love to know your opinion on this then - is there any way onsite cutting could be eliminated, semi or fully automated with wet cutting? Or is the onus always on the contractor to use PPE?

"They can afford it" is a terrible argument. There's literally no upside for Apple providing their infrastructure for free to third parties, particularly given that it's a potential vector for flooding their customers wi

I've heard it said that in France there are 3 types of nuclear reactor and 100 types of cheese. In America it's the other way around.

The professional gear can also be too good. I remember when the first Hobbit film came out the picture was so crystal clear it was distracting - like a very high end BBC drama.

I wish articles like this would standardise on W/kg or W/L. Range is meaningless when you don't know the pack size.

A couple of reasons. First, you could compare a self driving car's safety against your own record. I've had a licence since 1988 and never had an accident. I want to compare against that standard. Second, you could get a better id

The comparison against all human drivers is too broad. Typically insurance companies will apply higher premiums to new drivers due to inexperience and a higher likelihood of accidents. It would be better to see comparisons against the safes

So the Economist reported today that Tuvalu is planning for its disappearance as sea levels rise [1]. What a great opportunity for Msrs Andreeson, Thiel, Musk and all the other neo-Rand true believers to step in and create their seasteading

Exactly right. Try driving past a mob of kangaroos at the side of the road. There's a definite pace that works and they'll often break straight in front of you with little warning. Until self driving cars have been deployed intern

This is correct and has been forgotten. "You don’t want your phone to be an open platform. Cingular doesn’t want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up." -Steve Jobs 2007

There's a good example of how fast, intuitive thinking often fails in "Thinking Fast and Slow" (referenced in the article): A bat and ball cost $1.10. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
