Well that may be true. Of the cities you list I'm only familiar with the metros in vancouver and vienna, both of which are very nice. My point was not that muni doesn't have issues, but that they mostly stem from regional politica

The population of San Francisco is 800k, so it is significantly smaller than any of those cities. If you are talking about the entire Bay Area that is a different thing, but not really a valid comparison. The infrastructure problems in San

I believe the author meant that a bit more metaphorically than you are taking it. Scrubbed clean in the sense of removing the hard edges and character.. whitewashing so to speak. That said, the tech industry has definitely cleaned up areas

I remember reading that most of the fossil fuels on earth were deposited before mushrooms and other fungi evolved which break down organic matter. Before they existed, organic material did not decay nearly as fast as it does now, so it woul

That article says they are trying to make military drones "about equivalent to a chainsaw when up close". So that's still louder than a lot of the hobby drones out there today. Having flying chainsaw-level noises everywhere w

Probably the closest modern-day equivalent San Francisco has is Frank Chu, well-known protestor of 12 Galaxies fame. San Francisco still cherishes it's eccentrics. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Chu

Where did you get the databases of names? I'd like to do something similar but for different countries. Edit: Nevermind, I see it is in the README under data.

True, it's not answering the OPs original question. I think people are responding to the implied idea that you can just show up in San Francisco and bump into VCs all over the place, and that this is all the city has to offer. SF peop

Yeah, SF's not all about tech. Take the time to explore the reasons why all the tech people wanted to live here in the first place, before there was a startup ecosystem. Access to nature, beautiful location, progressive and accepting a

Would it be valid for me to submit my own patent application, with the exact same wording as amazon's, but substituting "50mm lens" in place of "85mm lens"? I dont know how patent law works, so I'm honestly ask

If you're hearing it a lot, then perhaps there might be some truth to it? You can refuse to believe whatever you want though. I agree I'd like to see a real study about this, but yeah anecdotal evidence is all I've got. I kno

In general, anything to the south/east of 280 is not a very desireable place to live. Less safe, farther from things, less nice houses etc. That's generalizing of course, but its much more of a lower- and working-class area, and n

One thing the article doesnt really touch on is how rent control, as well as San Francisco's many other pro-tenant laws, actually incentivizes landlords to keep rental units off the market. It's basically impossible to evict bad t

Without even considering positional head tracking, just the act of rotating your head moves the location of your eyeballs in space (our eyes are not the center of rotation of our head, our neck is). So I'm also doubtful that this will
