I’m not a backend java dev but whenever I take a look at java web projects which use spring/jsf/jsp etc frameworks, docs say to handle a request, write a method with that signature, we’ll call it when there is a http request. I al

> You need mechanisms for helping people learn "This is not welcome on HN. This is not how we do things here." Can we use flags for this purpose? Problem is even though a comment does not violate any rule, it gets down-voted as

I think this would only work if a known company backs this up and control the workload/program/users. Otherwise, it is a heaven for hackers/spammers

As a general rule in benchmarks, if product A does something in 1 ms while product B doing it in 500 ms, something is wrong. Either you misconfigured it or these products serve different purposes so they are not comparable. Either way, your

I understand your concern. Open source licenses are the ones that Open Source Initiative approved and just a note, you can’t have an open source license and prevent someone else to create a product from your work. Anyway, hope you find a li

C++ has goto, Java has “break <label>“, nobody uses it but you see a lot of generics abuse.

If you add nil checks to each receiver method, potentially, you are adding thousands of unnecessary branches to your program. It would be quite inefficient. You will ruin performance & readability altogether. Better way is what you desc

Unbelievable that you are being down-voted. Almost all pandemics started in China in the history, apperantly habitat is suitable for that. You knew that but still play with deadly viruses there, then accidently it spreads and you try to cov

I’m just saying pro-China guys good at flagging posts which criticize China. This doesn’t mean overall HN has a pro-China bias. You see posts praising China how did they achieve something about tech/production/organization etc wit

There are pro-china posts with same discussions under them but nobody flags these posts. This is not specific to hn, a common thing you can see on other platforms. This is unacceptable, feels like censorship spreading from China to my home

Whenever you see a post about “what did China do again today”, it has lots of up-votes but what a surprise it is not in the front page. Looks like dictatorship lovers are flagging these posts?

I’m from a country which US did its dirty things in it but don’t even compare China to US. China is another league, a big threat to the rest of the world and China has a lot less credibility than US.

Nobody cares what you call it whether dictatorship, authoritarian or most democratic country ever. Parent says “you get dissappeared if you say anything about government”. When that is true, we call it dictatorship. Terminology does not mat

If you are using load factor around %75, it means you’ll do 3 shifts at most. On average it is less than it as you are ordering your map on each removal and only case you’ll do backshifts when your items are “not ordered according to hash f

You skipped hs_remove but depending on implementation, hs_remove strategy may change your hs_set, e.g using tombstones. I’ve recently learnt that you don’t need tombstones at all in linear hashmaps, you just do backshift removals, it may be
