I'm trying to remember from the last em64t/ia32e & ia32 ISA toy OS I messed around with. i386 ISA is the bare minimum for functioning protected mode to be better than real-mode DOS. i286 protected mode is absolute trash. i386

It depends on the business model: freemium towards enterprise are, otherwise not so much. Also, commercial open source != free. You can't use Docker Desktop commercially without a license and it's not 100% OSS. Many companies use

It's in good company as macOS/XNU/Darwin userland is based on 4.4BSD-Lite2 and an ancient version of FreeBSD.

Adjectives are marketing for nouns. Adverbs are commercials for verbs. "Literally", "actually", "truly", "unquestionably", "honestly", "totally", "so", ... are useless. D

There's a good reason Julian Assange was dragged out of the Ecuadorian embassy holding "History of the National Security State". If we don't live for others, he who dies with most toys still wins a lonely, meaningless de

Possibly the reader-hero/-author mirror effect. I wouldn't ascribe too much to gender equating to philosophical tendencies. I'm often disappointed by the lack of philosophical depth and nuance objectivist adherents display.

Woah nice. I use Zsh most of the time, but the OG's of *NIX and POSIX/C bring back the mindset of portability and simplicity. If we only could've leapt from FORTRAN to Rust and skipped C and C++. ;)

Yep. Some startup guy in the chat widget space basically used me as free consulting under the premise of hiring for a job. The joke's on him because I'm at one of the MAANG's now as an SRE equivalent.

I ran into the Stanford law school exotic dancer on CL personals when those existed. She took some startup guy for half his net worth in a divorce. I asked her how he was doing but didn't receive a response back.
