This is highly dependent on the professor of the class in question. Professor's will sometimes offer a student the option of testing out of a class. It of course depends on the institution exactly what goes on the transcript in these cases,

I actually wrote a macro pre-processor for MIPS when I was an undergrad which took this concept even farther. I added scope blocks so you could re-use label names and "register names". see https://github.com/timtadh/jist/blob/master/memory

I would say your university is non-normative in this respect. There is usually no difference in the CS education. The difference is whether the full engineering core is required. If you don't intend to "be a engineer" the engineering core

Hate to disagree with you. But having written many parsers (and even a few parser generators) it really isn't that difficult if you understand the theory. People encounter problems usually because they don't understand the theory and don't

I am not sure anyone would think you could learn how to write a compiler from scratch from Muchnick's book. It is a fantastic book, easily one of the best CS books I have ever read. However, the author makes it pretty clear from the get go

Undoubtedly. However, from a standpoint of teaching a class to Math and Computer Science students you can and should present the backing theories in full detail. Student benefit greatly from having a common write up on the proofs. The philo

I recommend The Incompleteness Phenomenon over GEB[1]. It thoroughly presents Gödel's Completeness and Incompleteness theories at a level appropriate to the collegiate Math or Computer Science student. [1] http://www.amazon.com/Incompleten

Actually, using Python or similar is pretty attractive option for Gui development. I know it isn't hip to use WxWindows or Qt4, but if you want a gui that works on all three major platforms Python + Qt4/Wx is a pretty good way to go. Salt t
