I hit the new once or twice a day, but sometimes it s just too much. Plus I don't feel that welcomed when the only enhancements to the site I see are taking away permissions (I'm at 460 karma. I can't downvote anymore)

Not sure why this isn't rated higher. Everyone is telling him to quit and walk away instead of trying to make it work. I'd go further then what iuguy proposed. Every morning, check in with your boss by email or face to face and let him know

To someone who has never heard of your startup before, your front page doesn't do much to explain what you do. Something to do with embedding content not just a link. What do I do from there? Your call to action button is a link to the api

If that was the case, digg would have banned those accounts. The accounts were not banned, just the digging of stories stopped.

"aiming lower" is a bit degrading. YC companies are a market segment that wouldn't hire these folks because of their skill disciplines. They are smart people without a market.

Those also used to be their main selling points for folks subscribe to lastfm. Their revenue from subscriptions must not be enough to affect their decisions with regards to license fees

I guess it is. They appear to be removing all the reasons I signed up for lastfm and the main way I use it. * Library and recommended stations remain

oh of course I'm already on call for the hardware stuff.. but I'm not the one who has to go down to the colo and find another motherboard to swap. Heroku is really tempting me, but as you say they are charging me for it. $100 a month for SS

We won't be closing anytime soon. I'm the only tech guy and am basically already on call 24/7 for the software side of things. Being the only one responsible for hardware as well is not appealing.

Not overly price sensitive, as anything will probably be a savings over what we are paying now. (Budget ~$1000 a month) The site is RoR and while doesn't have performance "problems", it is slower then I would like.

Do people use multiple VPSs to host a single site? It would seem slower and a bigger security risk to have your db on one slice and web server on another?

Yes and no. I use ActiveMerchant for the hard part ( http://www.activemerchant.org/ ), but built my own UI and models for storing transaction history.

My guess is the friend is one of those people that thinks the idea is worth more then the work it takes to launch it. > My co-founder had the "idea" for a startup.

First I would probably stop working on it immediately. Then I would gather all evidence you have and create a full time-line of the project. From when it started, to who did what, what was previously agreed on, either via email or in person

Our local TV station has done this and has promoted it heavily via on air commercials. It looks like it has given a good boost to their floundering local craigslist knock-off. http://www.wcax.com/

I was thinking the same thing. GAP put out a crappy new logo on purpose (They aren't using it anywhere) knowing it would create buzz. Roll that buzz into a crowdsource contest. And in the end stick with your orig logo.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I had thought of a few different "offline" mode options. I'm not sure there is a market for printing call sheets and handing them to volunteers. Most campaigns are fine printing off excel pages and using
