If you check the comments, Amazon Web Services fulfilled their wish for a week in the cloud. Cheap and makes for good publicity.

My only compliant is categories and searching. For example my side hobby is old Volkswagens. Since they have no way to categorize vehicles that are for sale, I have a few bookmarks with crazy search strings. VW + (1951|1952|1953.. etc) Add

It's being fought for this summer. (Not universal, but a step towards it) My contribution to the cause is working IT for the cause at a good deal less then what I'd be paid (or expect to be paid) at a for-profit. I won't inject politics eit

Are you not being hired to build it? I guess it would come down to them letting you know how far along they are or does that even matter?

Mine (in the US) was filled with noise. (never got over 26k using a 56k modem) I still had to pay per minute for local calls, there is all kinds of crazy fees and extra charges and I barely ever use it. I'm way too far for DSL and forget fi

Personally I've gone with RoR and haven't looked back. That said, its your project and there are no right or wrong answers. RoR and PHP would both fit your 4 priorities. Let me know if you want to bounce so more questions off me. tiwatson a

Glad to see they are keeping it light with a bit of humor, but not too over the top. Though I did like the longer rails envy format. I actually learn while driving to work.

Once the user has filled in anything then the label is completely lost. How is that better then having the label above or to the right where it is always viewable?

Most of those sites are not for web designers. The one I clicked on to view was a retail outlet in the northeast. The site was all flash and took over 2 minutes to load with no options to skip. That stands out in a bad way.

You’ll note, by the way, that a lot of online retailers take a weedwacker to their entire navigation system when you’re getting into the purchase funnel. Check out political campaign contribution pages. Most don't have a single link to ta

What is the technology behind this? It would be a perfect feature to integrate into a project I'm working on, but would rather have it inhouse then possibly overwhelm or upset a 3rd party.

It only works for certain referring pages. Google being one of them. Direct access, or a HN referral will not show the answers.

Question along these lines. What version should an updated RHEL4 server have? I'm only at OpenSSH_3.9p1 yet up2date says everything is up to date.
