Scott Hanselman hacked a light outside his home office to indicate his Lync (now Skype for Business) status. I always though this was a novel way of indicating to the kids whether he could be disturbed when doing remote working. http:/

iPhones are still pretty poor value for money compared to cheap androids, as long as you can get reasonable pay-as-you-go contracts as well. I'm not sure how that situation changes in the US, where there doesn't seem to be the sam

This NPR podcast posits that the source of the current male / female divide in computing began in the early 80s as a result of home computer and videogame marketing. It's definitely worth a listen. http://www.npr.org&#x

One study isn't what convinces me, it's the existing body of evidence that does so. Organisations like WHO don't recommend a minimum of 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding because of a single study, and I don't claim to

Around half of all eggs laid in the UK come from free range hens (1) - I believe this increasing proportion is partly due to a sticker requirement to mark eggs with 'Eggs from caged hens'. I wonder what effect there would be on th

I think the data's pretty unequivocal about it affecting the IQ of the baby. This study's *1 got the result down to 7 points increase for 90% of babies when breastfed, whereas the figure I hear thrown around most often is 4 points

The English crime statistics have violent crime happening to men at almost twice the rate of women. What I found interesting was a recent study that found rape has a much higher rate of PTSD occurrence than other crimes - maybe it's so

I guess that's the difference between this and say, threadless. Threadless has amateur custom designs submitted and voted on, and the top designs float up to the front page. Because most people simply aren't very good designers...

Comcast can charge a crapload of money for cable. If they offer internet services at netflix prices and are highly successful (lots of signups) - if this allows a small fraction of their cable customers to cut ties, Comcast loses money.
