A business loan? Those that I've seen require hefty personal collateral if not several years of profit backed by tax records. Plus, the minimum amount is usually 25k to 50k. You'll be paying a lot more interest at higher risk than with a cr

Sure, song/playlist suggestion and commentary. Been trying to create something that I, personally, would like to see exist. Have devoted most of my free time since the end of last year.

The best motivation is making the worker feel that what he's doing is very important and expressing a sincere interest by letting him discuss with you the details of the project that interest him.

Some will advise that you should secure funding if you see a downturn coming so that you can weather the storm. I agree though that getting investments at early stages can often be far more trouble than it's worth. As far as quitting, well

It's not about what the company does now. It's about what they're going to do in the future. Tons of profitable companies have humble beginnings. So really there's not much to discuss here without more information.

You can always wager your reputation, or at least make some definitive claims that can be held against you if you end up being wrong. "Some companies with high valuation will tank" is neither informative nor original advice. It's beating up

Probably the best solution I've seen yet, although that has some big limitations. What surprises me is that, in looking at all the browser rendering benchmarks online, everyone just seems to do it by hand! There must be some pragmatic way t

I looked over those products and only see download time and latency, not render time. If you could provide a link to where this feature is listed, that'd be very helpful. What I'd really like though would just be some kind of browser perfor

I tend to value people's bets based on what they're willing to risk on it. All of this idle surface speculation doesn't do much for me. Particularly non-insightful.

Still just vague analogies. It's not that hard to give a more concrete example of what's possible. Why don't people do this? Because you'd see that this doesn't really provide anything compelling at all.

Unless I'm missing something, yslow just measures download size and latency. I want to measure how well the browser progressively renders the page. For example if I made a layout with tables nested 50 deep, the browser would do worse at pro

Took me a while to figure this out. Press release in disguise. I'd not be so harsh if the predictions weren't so vague.

If VC's know so well what will work then why don't they just start the companies themselves? "Social networks", what a meaningless buzzword. VCs: Please, no more buzzwords.

Seems like this will affect startups at very late stages in their growth. How many of us have even put ads in before the product was effectively done? Not exactly cutting off innovation at the source.

Yeah that customizable themes idea never worked out for myspace, or blogs, or web stores.... Regular people go crazy for that stuff. They should expand on this feature even more.

The biggest requirement is having encouragement from people around you or examples of success that seem achievable. Without these, hacking isn't so alluring.

For comparison, hikers on rough terrain usually bring a hiking staff and aim to keep at least two points of contact at all times. I can see two legs being more efficient than four, but wheels are usually vastly more efficient than either..

It seems that it is much easier to stay up with three or four legs than two. Just lock them into a slightly outward direction and you cannot fall. If you're on one or two though, you've really got to balance the rest of the system much more
