That will be great. Org’s greatest power it’s also a weakness – coupling with Emacs. I mean it’s great in all aspects except getting other people to use it. Pandocs makes it possible/bearable to interact with rest of the world (I’m in

Thank You for the ever improving org-mode parser. Org-mode is in general difficult since it's a bit of a moving target, so I'm surprised that it's so well supported!

It shoudl not be a problem if GPL code is called from separate app and it output is used. Of course It's best to consult a lawyer. Also what in GPL makes this difficult to use it commercial software? You are even free to sell it after

Maybe slightly radical idea for beginner, but since we’re on hackernews. Try to write down solutions to known, quite easy problems (that you are able to solve easily by hand) step-by-step (line by line) using SymPy ( https://www.s

Rust is bigger than C++?! I mean i can hardly imagine any language being BIGGER (as in more language features) than C++ (except C++ 2030 standard ;)

We do. Gitlab or Gitea are FOSS (the first one partially, the other fully I think).

I'm a beginner in elisp (and tbh in programming in general) but would like to help. For me pull request model is much more natural than mailing lists and patches. It doesn't matter at all if its GitHub, GitLab or (my personal pref

Pretty cool but I think SymPy is more practical w.r.t. to formula transformations and rendering is as good in Jupyter notebooks. If it only had as good pattern matching and substitution rules as Mathematica...

Hopefully FOSS software In architecture will get popular soon, so that when I get to build my home I can get files from my architect, make some adjustments and send it back for discussions and verification. It would be cool to truly “own” d

I had really high hopes for cpu with native float128 support (quad precision) with POWER9 but after tests it turned out is only native in addition and multiplication ops. We’ll see what new generation brings to the table.

It’s nice that fortran still runs strong in scientific computing. In my opinion it’s probably still the fastest route for scientist to go from 'hello world' to HPC on clusters. If it wasn’t for Julia I would be using it as my prim

Are you sure that it wasn't due to the fact that Intel Atom doesn't have AES instruction set[1]? I think openssl uses it a lot so it would explain this huge difference (since looking at the clocks, AVX/SSEs etc. I would expec

SymPy is great! On one hand it's great that it was written in Python and fairly extensible thanks to that, but on the other it's a shame, since it probably will never be fast enough for high performance symbolic computing. That sa

This is nice. I think OEIS and in general libraries of constants will be of great help in tackling problems with no analytical solutions. Actually I do a lot of integrals this way – symbolically but checking whether the transformation was l

If you do something with some number crunching it’s Julia. First it’s nice because notation is very similar to math and turning algorithms into code is easy, but then comes multiple dispatch, nice dynamic type system and lisp-like ability t

It’s not true. If building has any reasonable ventilation (and it must have one in order to pass inspection and norms) it should has at least 3-4 air exchanges per hour. So drying inside wouldn’t make that much of a difference to cause mold
