That's not fair. Remember how long it took to learn how to program for the first time? Haskell is so different from imperative programming you should approach it like that.

I don't think that's the reason. I have no idea how to tinker with my car but when my mechanic says it'll take $500 to fix it often seems reasonable.

These are all nice words, but when MBTI is tested it fails (citation from the article). So this model is wrong AND it's not useful.

As far as I can see, he's advocating a MVC approach. The controller is used for handling View input/output. The Model is where the data and business logic is supposed to go. For some reason most people think the Controller is where the b

I use IDEA and not eclipse, but for the last 2 versions of IDEA it seems to get more and more buggy and feature wise, eclipse seems exactly the same. Then of course there's the obvious reason that with the community edition there's no appse

At the end of your article you said to hit reply if you want to hear more, but I didn't see a reply button so maybe you meant post it here? I'd like an article about the transition from being an employee of a company to being a consultant.

Is there something structured like hacker news that focuses on articles with content like this? I find this a lot more interesting than threads about entrepreneurship but I don't know where to go to read about things like this.

There are libraries out there that already reinvent the large chunks of functionality ORMs provide without requiring you to use an actual ORM. I think the middle ground is the best way to go here. Avoid ORMs, avoid native SQL, meet somewh

I really love the idea behind this article, but I didn't like the execution. I was confused and intimidated after the "scales" section (and that's the first part). Also, I don't know what the difference between a key, note and a few other

Assuming that that java bash was in context, I have to say that the IDE features I mentioned would be useful for almost any language: Refactorings: I can rename a method in one location and it will change all the calling code. This would b

At a company I've worked at we didn't do it because it was an opportunity to be sued. You have to word it very carefully or it could be considered discrimination. Easier just to avoid the risk altogether.
