I'm pretty sure the former is criminal (i.e. illegal), whereas the latter is unlawful, hence why businesses have to chase copyright infringement - rather than the authorities doing it for them. The authorities only step in when it becomes a

I find it odd how people think of businesses as one big entity that knows all, when in reality its loads of small teams, contractors, freelancers etc. sort-of working together. You get that complaint a lot from people who criticize broadcas

I imagine that running and riding (on a real bicycle) is more beneficial when you are overweight because there's more to carry around.

They should consider renaming that ISO to something more affordable - I had no idea that it was compatible with Intel CPUs.

My only real complaint is she says 'awesome' too much. I'm pretty sure there's an unwritten rule in these parts that prevents us from saying it. Fine for Americans and acceptable for tech conferences, but too jovial for us Brits. ;)

Yeah, drivers in my country are taught to watch out for vulnerable road users (i.e. pedestrians), moving a vehicle onto a pavement is prohibited except for access reasons.

Not sure if it will help, but have you tried running Firefox's hidden profile manager and created a new profile? Firefox was horrible to run on OS X for me, it would drag the whole system down, but since changing to a new profile it has run

When I read this headline, I assumed Google had redesigned it again... didn't realise people were still using the old design. Personally, the redesign pushed me back to Thunderbird and I ended up deleting thousands of emails. It was quite l

Support for all three platforms is a requirement for me (and most other developers I know) these days, it's one of the reasons why I haven't bought various standard tools including Photoshop... yet use Filezilla, Gimp, Sublime Text 2, Firef

Picasa is more than just a web service, it's great for fixing images (with minimal effort) and searching local collections of photos via face recognition.

I think you are seeing this from a limited viewpoint. There's lots of people out there who don't even understand what the internet is, you'd be lucky if they know what a browsers is. The EU is proactively protecting those people, much like

Hopefully these new changes will make Gimp nicer to use. At the moment, the way it handles fonts (or doesn't) is probably my biggest annoyance.

Presumably it has a lot to do with the ecosystem that the customer has already bought into. If they already use Google's products, then Android phones are the natural option, if iTunes then Apple. Nokia's shoved themselves into a specialist

Whenever I look at a story about Moody's, S&P and so on, there's almost always two types of comments: people who are threatened by their decisions (and discredit them) and people who feel vindicated (and think the decision is great). I

Given how short-term these sorts of events are and how unlikely it is to happen there again (in a lifetime), I suggest just letting them get on with the crazy thing and concentrate on more constructive subjects. One of those topics to keep

You can normally tell via other clues. For example, the design of the cover, a first edition may say that the book has been nominated for an award, whereas later editions will mention winning the award, an adaption to film, the film's award
