But the thing is most neuroscientists don't just sit at a computer all day. 95% of the tasks they do are not computer-bound. If you're doing animal-based research (the majority of real neuroscience currently), then its time spent with behav

My girlfriend is a neuroscientist. Every time she sees something about them 'modeling the brain' she is visibly amused/unhappy. It might be possible, but our current understanding of the brain feels much further away. The concept that we're

Yea, I got that... but in the context of a tech blog post, the interface just doesn't seem to make sense or at least in my head. Its a blog post, not rap lyrics.

Maybe this is offtopic, but I really don't like the way Rap Genius does links. It makes it so I essentially have to click on each link twice to get to what it actually goes to...

You don't happen to have any documentation for how to do that do you? Very curious. Never seen anything about setting up Unicorn like this prior (I'm just using 3 or 4 Unicorns/dyno currently)

Yea, it still works- but its clunky as my only extra USB keyboard in the house is a huge Unicomp one.

The modern round of game systems are quite flawed from a UI/UX perspective, as the author here points out. My Playstation 3 forces me to do various updates to watch Netflix (which is what I use the system for 90% of the time). All of the sy

I still strongly feel that the best way to achieve excellent SEO is through building human-accessible pages. How is your site on a screen reader? If its easy to navigate by braille keyboard or voice output, then it probably is well enough t

I too am very interested in this. Netflix and Amazon both seem to be amazing companies to work for - if you're in the right class/caste/level of employment. If you're a developer or similar working for corporate, it sounds great. If you're

So this post on Ars is interesting- because it seems to involve a non-US company sending DMCA takedown notices, which triggers a US Law, but if you try to find the non-US company and sue them then going after them might be very hard (even i

Ruby, R, Perl, Processing, Hadoop, etc... When I say big data sets, I'm normally talking in at least the millions, if not several billion rows. I've got grad student friends who strain to deal with their 'huge' (10,000 row) datasets for wee

I couldn't tell you what the major "advancements" in Wordprocessing have been in 20 years. I haven't had Office installed on my personal computer in about 10 years, but when I use Word or Excel they just feel like... well, spreadsheet and w

Yep. I was part of the Web Ecology Project in 2009-2010 and we were able to get pretty awesome access to Twitter at the time. I had a good dialog on a weekly basis it seemed with their API team and they were super responsive and supportive

I keep wondering why all legislation isn't done in a git-like format. It really seems to be the best platform for being able to attribute and track changes on complex text documents with a large body of contributors.
