This is actually an important lesson for game designers. Real randomness is very frustrating for players! Games should be designed to not be random. For example, there's an expansion to The Settlers of Catan that lets you use cards inst

One approach to this would be to just ban extensions that are caught installing themselves without the user's permission. If the banned list is kept up to date it would make life hard for people abusing the system.

The wikipedia article on browser share does a good job of illustrating the fact that nobody really has any idea what's going on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers#Sum... At least we can conclude Chrome is probably s

I liked SkyDrive, but its Windows bias is pretty apparent. It won't sync Unix files that would be illegal on Windows (due to e.g. the filename) and the sync algorithm is pretty bad on OSX (frequently running my CPU up to 100%). These are so

I wish flightfox.com would let us (regular users) run cool contests like this. The options for running a contest are much more limited than this.

ChromeOS is years before its time. It's an aspirational operating system where Android is a realistic one. That also means that it's a little early to pass judgment.

Amazon has had, what, five years to expand its Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service? The fact that they have chosen not to implies that they haven't managed to make it cost effective. I think this speaks volumes about the feasibility of gr

Walk into a Walmart and you can find tons of knockoff products like "Honey Nut Oatie Os". The breakfast cereal industry doesn't appear to have collapsed, though. In fact, you can buy a generic brand version of almost anything .

When I search for "Eclipse Java", I want results about the IDE. When my girlfriend searches, she's probably interested in Twilight-themed coffee or something. That's what personalization is all about.
