I think the online version of that book actually uses Haskell (but the text still refers to Miranda).

It is certainly unlawful: it is trying actively to disrupt someone's service (a website but also possibly its entire business). There are also specific laws for DoS[0]. [0]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-s

I met someone who was specifically using `dict()` instead of `{}` because, he told me, the CPython parser was much slower on the later than on the former and that it was noticeable on larger code base. (That being said I think using Python

"detour", to reuse the word of the last paragraph, is how things happen. Look at how we'll get our favourite programming languages in the browser: by compiling to javascript, which evolves to become a potent IR (e.g. browsers

Maybe you could use the Git packfile format; this is a self-contained compressed Merkle-tree. If you ever need to reconstruct deterministically the tar from that, you can use something like pristine-tar[0]. [0]: https://joeyh.nam

A few questions: Is there any comparison (price/performance) with the SLS ? Is the second stage identical to the boosters of the first stage ? I was wondering if the SLS could also have four boosters instead of two as shown recently wh

I think this is because they regard the tar'd layers as a transport mechanism, not as the signed payload itself.

That's really neat. This makes me think to image analogies[0], something that impressed me enough that I keep remembering it after 13 years! [0]: http://www.mrl.nyu.edu/projects/image-analogies/

You seem to narrow down (i.e. restrict) pretty heavily what competition can mean. Open source projects can compete even if no money is involved, e.g. on visibility and amount of help and traction they can get from the community. This is par

I find parallel viewing difficult but cross-eyed quite easy. If you can raise a finger and squint and consistently manage to see two fingers, you should manage: Do it again with two fingers in front of you, you should be able to see four fi

Another very cool representation is Urban Boquist's GRIN (graph reduction intermediate notation). GRIN is used in Jhc (and thus in Ajhc and Lhc).

In the HTTP benchmark game, there is also Bryan O'Sullivan's attoparsec-based parser: http://www.serpentine.com/blog/2014/05/31/attoparsec/ The important point is that the parser is a few

The interesting bit that isn't mentioned is that all the given examples are actually part of the game specification, i.e. those behaviours are there on purpose. It means that if you have an accurate list of the desired features, you co

I would love to learn what you would expect from a PostgreSQL as a Service offer that would cost $0.50/month on top of DO. Having about 10,000 customers at that price point asking "quick general question" to gain a ridiculous

Something's wrong with this thread. Being for or against systemd is one thing. Bashing the people who are ready to do some hard work to bring more choices to the table is another. If someone wants to write another Ruby (or whatever pro

Why is it so bad to have a bad employee among the first employees ? I don't understand why it is that bad because it seems that if he/she is bad, you'll notice quickly and then can just fire him/her. Even here in Belgium
