I can set that up in about 10 steps including dumping db, setting up the offset, importing the db, and setting up reverse replication if you desire. Its super super easy. This is 6 of the steps: http://www.percona.com/doc&#

Call me crazy but why didn't you just do MySQL dual master auto increment numbers (one on even, one on odd) and then setup replication from old to new? That would have solved everything in one step.

As jtchang said, yes it comes down to planning. Ask the founders (or if you are one you should know this) what your daily active uniques are. Also ask what language you are getting code in. Java needs more headroom than c++ for instance.

Burp is fantastic. The free version is great, the paid version (which is very cheap) is even better. All our developers use burp to catch traffic between their development simulators and the testbed for debugging.
