There are a few reasons this is an unlikely scenario: 1) You need to unlock the phone to access the Amazon Go app QR code 2) There isn't just a door to the store, there are security portals that make it difficult to tailgate 3) If a th

A flock of thieves wouldn't be stopped by a convenience store clerk either. By requiring Amazon Go customers to be registered Amazon customers, Amazon have already significantly reduced the "shoplifting surface". If you'

The entrance to Amazon Go stores use security portals similar to what you'd see at a more secure office building. If someone tailgates you an alarm sounds.

I haven't used Webex or any Cisco conferencing offerings recently but I have been very impressed by Zoom. It works really well when using computer audio with AirPods. I've used this setup for meetings across continents without tho

For a business, especially a startup, the opportunity cost often makes multi-cloud infeasible. You'd rather spend that engineering time on delivering features or addressing tech debt. I'm of the opinion that multi-cloud doesn'

One caveat with us-east-2 is that it appears to get new features after us-east-1 and us-west-2. You can view the service support by region here: https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/regio... .

I've also heard similar from a teammate who previously worked with GCP. That said I know several folks who work for GCP and they are expending significant resources to improve the product and add features.

The only regions that are more expensive than us-east-1 in the States are GovCloud and us-west-1 (Bay Area). Both us-west-2 (Oregon) and us-east-2 (Ohio) are priced the same as us-east-1.

I was also of this mind but I'm really pleased with the workaround of mapping Caps Lock to Escape (more ergonomic when using Escape) and mapping Left Shift + Right Shift to Caps Lock when pressed simultaneously. I use Karabiner-Element

Lambda is a FaaS server-less platform. Think of it as: - virtual machines abstracted away physical hardware administration - containers abstracted away the operating system administration - FaaS server-less abstracts away the container and&

I was hoping to see support for U2F. I prefer to use Safari but really enjoy Chrome's support for Yubikey.

I've heard product managers described as "mini-CEOs" before. I don't think it's a comprehensive description, but it speaks to ownership mentality I think.

I've always disliked articles that use this tone. It's meant to be informal, but comes off as lazy and spoken in muted tones as if the author were in a pub; Docker sitting in a booth a few meters away blithely sipping on a pint of

I work in Seattle tech and would say generally that we use SF, Bay Area and SV interchangeably to refer to refer to both the Valley and City of SF combined.

If the development environment is comprised of multiple container images that would likely justify dedicated small EC2 instances.

Did you weigh these costs against the value of the developers not stepping on eachother's toes using the same instance?Separate users with sudo privileges provides zero isolation. I'm unsure what use case was, but if it was a test

Starting with the 2018 models they added a membrane around all the keys that 1) significantly reduces ingress of random crap 2) makes the keyboard quieter. Before I got my 2018 I had a 2015 MacBook Pro and don't find the keyboard to be

Your comment applies to your self as well. The vast majority of people don't need dedicated servers provisioned to them.

That theory is not only derisive but incorrect. There is always plenty of non-busy work to be done at a startup, even one with few users or traction.

Completely agree on this point! Also wish there was a way to remove Resource Groups from the top bar.
