EBS is absolutely SAN-as-a-Service, and it's fantastic. For a SAN, not only do you have to become a "storage expert", but their individual limitations will leave you with thousands of hours of wasted time and effort, constrai

Or suppose you run the most successful/profitable Fantasy Sports League start-up on the internet (used to work for 'em) and host your own gear. Every year you have to analyze trends in use and predict future load, to build the cap

I run cloud infra for a living. Have been managing infrastructure for 20 years. I would never for one second consider building my own hosting for a start-up. It would be like a grocery delivery company starting their own farm because seeds

1. Shrink your data. That's just an absurd amount of data for a start-up. Even large organizations can't quickly work around too much data. Resource growth directly affects system performance and complexity and limits what you wil

It's more important that you are able to participate than what the result is. Better to have an insecure system where 10 million people get to vote, than a secure system where only 10 people get to vote.

If sex work is real work, then sex workers should pay taxes like real workers. But a credit is not going to happen, purely for political reasons. We would tax the purchase of sex work as an extra excise tax, just like for gas, alcohol, toba

It would be great if we could solve the problem by backing up and addressing a few preliminary things first. Like, DNS is a very old protocol, and it's a good protocol. But will we keep using it this way 100 years from now? It may be c

It's funny you mention this. Removing resources from AWS is the one thing that reliably breaks in Terraform all the time. If you have never tried to destroy all your Terraform resources before, it will probably not work. You'll ha

That's more of a cache than a state file. It's great that it supports a cache (other CM tools do too) but you obviously need to refresh it before you deploy changes, or you don't know if your changes will break. Even if you&#

You can do that with Terraform too, but that is missing the point. The tool should ignore the state and simply apply the desired configuration , like every other CM tool that has ever existed. You don't need a state file for Ansible

Side rant: Terraform has somehow convinced people that mandatory state tracking is a good idea, because it is a useful feature sometimes . It's often more harmful than good. These tools are just configuration management for the cloud.
