You could apply this same thought reasoning with the trolly problem. You know one CEO but not the others. The others could be worse people overall but they choose to hide it. So you make a decision based off a known bias. I don't thi

So is FSD by the author and others being compared to perfect? Or is it compared to the worst drivers, average or best drivers? If we wait for perfect it will never happen.

It's almost impossible to have a rational discussion of anything Tesla now. The words Tesla and Elon bring far too much toxicity.

There is still Comma 3X with openpilot. I use it and it's pretty good. For the price it's very good.

I disagree with the author. I have a Comma 3x and use a fork of openpilot. It's comparable to tesla but not as good overall. It 100% reduces my cognitive load and definitely reduces fatigue. There is no question. Also, I paid only ~

The situation you describe has been happening for most of humanity. IMO society is worse now with dual income + strangers raising children. The only major benefits I've seen are 1) Woman have access to birth control 2) Women have equal

BFE? I'm guessing this is some slur for rural areas. You know the ones that typically have large families?

I always tell my wife, if she wants to have a lot of kids we have only two options. 1) We move close to my or her family. 2) We get a lot more money. I don't see anyway around it, we need family support or money to pay someone else to

It is slowly creeping in to almost every HN discussion, Low quality negative comments. If you point this out , you may be thought of naive or out of touch. They add 0 quality to the discussion but are easy to upvote.

They exist! I live in one and there is a small "town square" where the kids all walk/bike to and play with green space and (grocery, cafes, restaurants). It is surrounded by a typical suburban layout with high density closes

I would be more interested in the stat per miles driven. I suspect the US still is worse than Japan but a lower ratio. There is no point debating on US car stats, we are the best and worst at everything car related.

It's more that as a society we have agreed to a certain amount of risk that cars bring, because they have some positive value ( risk to value ratio will be debated ). Criminals bring 0 value and all risk. Criminals also do more than j

Wait, the OP starts out with an even more vague claim and then a counter-point gets jumped on? "Don't believe me go to Europe and Japan where kids are still allowed to walk" This is the top rated comment here, the line by its

You maybe on to something there but you phrase it as antagonistic. HN is heavily biased towards tech centers (SF, NYC, Seattle, etc...). These places skew liberal, agnostic, pro-public transport, pro-dense housing. Conversations will alway

>Car dependent design is the problem that prevents children from being able to play with friends These statements as facts aren't helpful because it implies car dependence is the only thing. There is so much history and nuance here

Tech companies usually have terminal levels. Meaning "up or out" exists, but once you reach Senior or Staff then it is ok to stay at that level indefinitely.

Urban area crime reduction starting around the 90s led to most movement back. The dual income job requirements just make it stickier and create a feedback system of higher housing prices. (which require more dual incomes...) As soon as tha

I wouldn't blame the universities. Almost everyone embellishes their resume. Some do it to an extreme. The first stage should be weeding these people out, and any hiring manager learns this lesson very quickly. Story: I learned this

FWIW I sort of agree with you. Background: I'm in a FAANG type company now, a YC company, 3000+ engineers. I'm a Staff SWE with 20+ years of experience (ECE degree) and make $600k+ per year. I've went through the promo cycl
