Seems reasonable: website looks shady, doesn't make it clear it's not Microsoft, doesn't have any contact or company/owner information. If I stumbled upon it I'd just assume it's purely a scam

You don't burn those though, they stay in the walls of homes/mains/whatever for a long time, by the time they need replacing I'm hoping we'll have a solution (easily 50 years in some cases) Also actually that covers

The current state of general pc (x86) machines has been awful for some time but a Mac is infinitely worse IMO, awful keyboards, fragile design, useless OS for anything except basics but there are a number of reasonable machines out there ju

NCSC are supposed to be doing this, but they're genuinely clueless and just like doing PR. I also don't think it's reasonable to say it's lack of awareness, the same people wouldn't give the launch codes to a 3rd pa

There is a point being totally missed in this thread and that is the UK government basically ignore all security common sense and do absolutely incomprehensible things like discuss national security over WhatsApp and Zoom, as a British citi

i use dolphin with gnome, gnome is a nice ux in general but lacks a lot, as was highlighted.. mixing elements is the only way to get a useful experience unfortunately

Makes sense, I do think the website gives the wrong impression IMO, perhaps a few more technicals would be good

Probably get flamed for this, but pulseaudio is good enough for IP networks and handles delay calculation pretty well, when used via multicast it's reasonable but a lack of ecosystem means non-linux support is poor and control is basic

Can you explain why this is better than something like restic or even just rsync with an encrypted disk? Pretty awful website aside what makes this different?

That's what I was saying, it's the enforced use of insecure channels by institutions (and also horribly inconvenient)

It isn't the telcos, it's the people asserting that SMS is the only way to authenticate someone (my bank does this), it's not only absurd but also horrifically inconvenient as it assumes the number happens to be tied to the S

Can't recall a particular one at the moment but pretty obvious searches return results that aren't really relevant enough, maybe I just need to change my query language though, but exact matches really should just work

The awful python 2 sync server still works for the most part, with storage bits and auth - it is a chore to setup and it sucks a little but eh, nobody else has bothered to make sync useful enough like the alternatives that do support custom

Well I am a native English speaker but in a Slavic country so I'd expect some results, but they're not they seem to assume russian which means Cyrillic which I cannot read

I really want to like ddg but it's just awful - not only are the results completely irrelevant but now it's started showing me russian language results, I'm in a country that uses the Latin alphabet.

Well this is it, it's just education - hiring remote workers has been covered by UK legislation for a couple of decades, if a taxation treaty is in place (which is practically everywhere) then either the employee is taxed at source (uk

Alternatively, you could request that your customers do third party verification before accepting an application, doesn't solve the privacy issue but does side step the responsibility for you, but again this all comes down to contracts

I get it, the problem is there is no way to verify residence or citizenship in a non-privacy violating way, and yes I've been on the other side getting foreign applicants so I understand their frustration too, but I'm not sure wha

As an aside, my own ip space is flagged as no less than 4 countries depending on which IP in a single block is used, networks are global, so IP based geolocation is really quite useless.

None really, relying on labelling IP space as originating from X country doesn't really work when adjacent IP addresses can be on the other side of the planet, it works for most domestic isps but that's about it, also consider exp
