This argument is so tiring... if we all agreed to change the word “serverless” to idk “xirverous” it would have a pretty clear meaning and clear distinctions from “server” and “local to the machine”. Xirverous technologies are an innovative

Adding one thing: in the past, mega-companies spent money on tangible assets which were depreciated over time as they produced income. Now mega-companies spend money on intangible assets but they can expense immediately, so tax is deferred

Did you know what poly was before clicking? Did you know Google has hundreds of branded product offerings, so say 12 closures per year is something like 2%, i.e. a 25 year median horizon (=1/.02/2)? https://developers.g

Also why doesn't balance mean "now you've earned an extra hour or two mid-day for yoga, 0 judgement"? I call it the "retail-worker mentality" when I point it out in friends. It isn't meant to deride retail

Any reasonable person understands that "compensation includes food stipend of $8000" in a contract means they get $8000 if they're home. Clearly GP is referring to less cut-and-dry scenarios, i.e., nearly all scenarios in thi

For this to be true, then it must be true that trial-run promotions very frequently fail, so they keep the person in the role they perform best in. I think that's not the case. I think trial-run promotions lead to promotions about equa

This is mild exploitation widespread in employment, and I think you're identifying with the exploiter. It's not the rewards up front, it's the rewards as-you-go. Or it's the rewards at the end of the previous rank. Alway

I admire that and wish more employees looked after their interests, too, so that the commons weren't so poisoned with corporation-morality rather than humanity-morality. Practically speaking, I think giving The Guardian or some pro-uni

Kathryn Spiers did a man-in-the-middle attack on company property, like how some ISPs used to insert their own popups into HTML crossing their wires. Google tracked Spiers down and fired her for it, 100% justified. Separately, Google's

The person redlined a contract instead of spending +$2000/yr (out of a likely $250,000+ salary) on a second personal phone. Such short-sidedness is a bad trait in an employee. Second, their protest is laudable. But their decision was c
