Don’t know why downvoted, it’s clear what’s meant here. Nobody’s expecting to find inside info and if GP is going to only offer platitudes then why bother even clicking in the thread?

Please don’t tell me what not to do, it’s considered harmful. Especially please don’t tell me to ignore an industry standard only to offer some bespoke solution as an alternative.

I think it’s a term for any kind of unconditional stimulus; everyone getting automatically it as if it was cash dropped from helicopters.

> tech losing its status as investment of last resort What do you mean by this? Investment in tech companies by retail/institutional investors, or investment by companies in their own proprietary tech?

Seems like it would much more common where the numbering system alternates monotonically for the length of the street. In eg. USA where the numbers go up by 100 per block, there are gaps to make use of.

Yes, I ended up using OneDrive instead for $3/mo. Also the Dropbox web UI is atrocious.

It’s coming back quite quickly. I had an old Amex card that had it but nobody had the readers at the time. Then the readers appeared about 3-5 years ago but the contactless cards had been mostly withdrawn. Now they’re coming back, my most r

Cuz some of us are safe drivers and want to see what is up ahead instead of blindly (literally) following the car in front like a lemming

You’re grossly misinformed. > What is misinformation is saying that climate change started those fires. No. > The temperature rising one fraction of a degree doesn’t cause combustion. Yes it does. It dries out vegetation and evaporate

Exactly. With all the dry vegetation in place and ongoing drought, a dry lightning strike eventually would have done the same thing an arsonist didn’t.

The strangest HDD failure I ever dealt with was a Toshiba notebook drive where the centre bearing had become shot. The notebook would not boot and the HDD sounded like a coffee grinder. By moving the notebook in the air and trying different

To be clear, premium economy and economy+ are different things. The former uses larger seats and is typically available on long-hauls. The seat is somewhat similar to old-style business class seats, or modern domestic first class seats. It

Premium economy is still usually at least 2x the economy ticket price; on a long haul that will cost many hundreds to up to thousands extra. What you’re probably thinking of is the US airline specific “comfort/extra/plus” add-on t

Exactly. There get so many startup positions advertised, even here on HN, where the job description summarizes as “build our product from the ground up” and the offere salary is below par and the offered equity is an insultingly low number

What I’ve learned from these 737 discussions: Anyone who uses the term “inherently unstable” is an armchair aerospace engineer. It’s such a vague weasely term.

Ford Rangers are really popular too. This is a recent thing with Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi and Holden (GM) all shutting down locally in the last 10 or so years, therefore all current trucks are US/foreign designed.

I suspect CD ROMs used CAV (in contrast to audio CDs which used CLV) because the processors (perhaps originally based off audio processors) could intially only deal with a fixed data rate, and with CLV + random access, the drive would have

That OneBusAway existed first and provided its technology to Google makes this all the more obnoxiously arrogant, but that’s to be expected from Google these days. OneBusAway should cut off Google’s data feed in return; it would only be fai

The latest Wework TV ads sell it as an “operating system” for workspaces, among much other showy language filled with business-transforming technology buzzwords. It definitely sounds like they’re marketing as some unique proprietary tech, a

Not from US, have noticed this too. It’s to the point that I don’t even hit up most of my old US friends anymore, because to do so would feel like encroaching. It’s hard to explain the vibe, but it’s there.

It could depend on multiple factors, such as: number of people you're debating with, their demographics, and the fact that some people are more ... shall we say... "trigger-happy" than others.

Australian by birth and British by descent (much of Australia’s citizenry) works well; visa free travel to many countries, a special work visa category in the US, and the ability to work in th UK and Europe, at least until any brexit.
